Possible new motor ...

Are you importing from the UK?  I see your location is Ireland too

Exactly right mate .. Well I'm considering it anyway. The VRT on it is €3743.00. The only difference between the VRT offices and **** Turpin is that **** Turpin had the decency to wear a mask .!!

Yeah so you're looking at around €18.5 to €19K all in based on stg conversion at the moment.  Its hard to get a 170 here as most went for the greenline version.  The VRT is a killer alright and when you factor it in (I've considered it before myself) there is not a huge saving although there are lots appearing on Irish roads at the moment.  My last car was a 2011 170 manual (not an estate though and mileage slightly higher) and I think the dealer is looking for around €19K now so I'm sort of comparing it to that.  Having said that the car looks great and as its clearly from a main dealer probably has FSH etc.  To be fair the UK cars will generally be looked after better and probably spend more time on better roads as well. Mileage looks genuine enough too, I know a few people that have been stung with some UK imports as many are not as they seem by the time they reach our shores!  I see it has 18" wheels, I have them on the new L&K and they look great and give good cornering but not sure how suitable they will be for Irish roads in the long term - just maybe something to consider.  How does the extended warranty work if you import?  I'd recommend the 170 though, you will notice the difference if you do any decent amount of driving.  I was getting 5.4/100km or just over 50mpg overall so not bad overall.

I spoke to the dealer and it is a one owner full main dealer history car, In fairness it does look totally mint. I completely  understand what you're saying regarding the 18" alloys and my thinking is to put a 45 sidewall tyre on them. That's what I have on the MK1's 17" wheels and no problems as yet. I am careful though and I get a lot of practice doing 35K miles a year. Hard to see the back of the MK1, it's been a gem and is running like a swiss watch, now at 170K miles. It should fetch decent money as it's in really great condition and the Edition 100 spec is very nice.

I think I'll go for this one ...

Looks quite tidy, good mileage for the age.

Looks good.  Judging from the 60-plate, bear in mind that it will be due at least a cambelt change + major service in the next 6 months.

Thanks guys,

Deposit down and picking it up next wednesday ...

It's had a service recently but I always do an oil and all filters, brake fluid/coolant change on all my cars regardless of their last one. As for the cam belt on these, is the recommended milage 100K miles or 4 years?

Cheers,

Rob

Cam belt is 180,000km (110,000 miles) or 4 years
