ECV / Surging High Idle -Thanks Briskoda

Featured Replies

Just thought I would pass on the details of a recent issue and the resolution found thanks to Briskoda.

After going for a drive on Sunday I found that with no accelerator and the clutch in the idle was surging up to 1500 / 2000 rpm and then dropping down again constantly. Fuel economy whilst driving also dropped off and whilst out on the drive on sunday after a rather enthusiastic downshift there was a bit of a burning oil smell.

Searching round these forums i found various postings all suggesting it could be ECV related (even one mentioning the smell).

Drove again today and it was okay until warmed up and then started surging. So I thought 40 odd quid on an ecv is still cheaper than an initial look, popped into Southampton Trade Parts Specialist on the off chance, they had a revision N in stock and it was cheaper than i could find on ebay, £35 got it home 10 minute job to swap and everything rock solid at idle again now.

For ref the part no is 06F129101N

Hope this serves to help others and big thanks to Briskoda for providing the fix :)

PS If your in the Eastleigh area Southampton TPS seem like a good source for parts...
