Number Plate Change help!

Featured Replies

I need some help with a number plate transfer I processed a few weeks ago. I have two vehicles and the plate was transferred from to the other. Now today in the post I received the V5C for both cars with the number plate swapped over but no new tax discs or MOT certificates! Do I change the plates today and notify my insurance company or do I wait?

Whenever I have done mine the certificate to make the plates, tax disc (no MOT needed) have always arrived before the V5 or actually processed in the DVLA office.

I think the tax disc and cert are done locally at the DVLA office and posted out so I would wait.

there are no dvla offices anymore, all are processed at swansea. I used to have a local one at leeds and was very easy to go but has now been shut down

We still have an office in Cardiff, I was told if they are not busy they will do it or to keep other offices busy it would be transferred out.

Think you'll find the one in Leeds has moved to Temple Newsam

No need not to change the plates,  you do not need a MOT Certificate, but it can be printed out if you want.

Check if your vehicles have valid VED on the DVLA 'Vehicle check' site, but you know they are taxed anyway.

Display the VED discs you have, and carry the V5 with you,

the Data Base must have the cars new registration on it already.

if someone like a Police Officer or Traffic Warden looks at the wrong disc before the new ones arrive, you can explain.

You need to Insure the car on the Registration Number now on the V5's.

You want the cars with valid insurance cover even if they are not on the public highway.

Good point, DVLA should know about the VEDs as they process the plate change so should be flagged as taxed.

My V5 came first and then a few days later my tax along with the paperwork to get new plates made up and then i notified my insurance...
