Limphome mode

Featured Replies

Last weekend i replaced my perished 'y' breather hose and thought i had cured my problems. But the car is now again intermittently entering limp home mode usually on acceleration for anything from 5-30+seconds.

After the breather pipe was fitted there was an obvious improvement and around 100-150 miles of driving without incident.

Vagcom shows no faults and all other hoses etc appear in good working order. The car is in standard form and does start up and run fine, its just the odd blip that occurs.

Anybody have any ideas where to start?

Possible n74 problems?

Only thing i can think is bringing forward removing sai, n112&n249 systems and see if any of those are at fault

Have you checked that your brake lights work? Or work the second you touch the pedal?

Il double check in morning but do think they are ok. Should the engine be running when i check them?

As long as ignition is on it should be fine. My car was doing the same as yours and it was the brake light switch i was having the press the pedal half way before the lights came on

Sounds promising then

Just checked and it is instant

The S pipe near the Y pipe possibly.

Once the one goes the other is never far behind.

Weather permitting il change it this weekend. Only reason i left it was its plastic and all in tact so hoped the mayo inside would clear as the car was run with the new top pipe

Replaced my S pipe and car was better for it... whilst removing I put my thumb through it at the bottom which goes to show how brittle it was

Did you have any problems with the t piece the pipe joins into? Ive seen a few topics saying its very likely to break

Just a little update ive replaced the lower s pipe and have gone on a short test run from which i am positive.

Better power wise and no limp home. One thing thats really stood out is how i could hear the turbo whistling away something that on hearing i realised id not heard so clearly for quite a while.

Im now hoping its sorted but will be giving it a week or 2 before i declare success

Can't say I'm surprised but today I have hit limp home mode again

I'm thinking now that I'm going to send it for a pressure test at the end of the month.

Breather pipes removed were deffinately shot but there seems to be other problems.

I'm still suffering from a flat spot just below 2k rpm in 2nd gear and limp home not always but most times when accelerating harshly
