All at once!

Featured Replies

I have had my 03 Octy for 11 months covering 21,000 glitch free miles, taking the total up to a megre 113,000

Since last Thursay my lovely wee car has displayed the following:

1) Cruise control won't activate, at which time the electric windows stop working (intermittent)

2) Central clocking weirdness, will lock, won't lock shenanigans (intermittent)

3) Starting difficulties. (Intermittent)

Now I know it's wetter than Neptunes bathing costume just now but can all these things be linked to a single point of water ingress?

I have read indivual posts about one or other but not all at the same time.

Any help greatly appreciated

Fusebox on top of battery ok

Need to check, my Mechanic believes that he door issue is to do with the door solenoid. Will have a look at the fuse box today to see what's going on.

Windows were having a fit yesterday with period of not opening, not closing and self closing......

It could be solenoid but also could be water getting in window motors in the door.Being the weather like it is I'd look at that first.

Thanks for that will look the first.

cruise control issue is probably front brake light switch under brake pedal. If the switch is faulty cruise will not work

central locking and window issues could be down to water ingress into the central convenience unit under passenger floor or even the drivers side window /door control unit inside door.

A lot of folks have had issues with this lately due to bad weather and leaking water.

Lot's of threads on this

Took the door card off and had a look at the connector block adjoined to the widow regulator unit. True to form and as per a large number of other posts there was a lot of water inside the connector block, will allow it to dry off thoroughly, will stick a bit of WD in there and put it back together to see if that sorts it.

Still at a bit of a loss to the route of entry for the water and the window seals all still appear to be in good order......

For the cruise control there is also a switch on the clutch pedal too so may be that

true but normally it is the brake one

Hi,

If you having door issues/central locking check to see if your  puddle light comes on if you open the drivers door?

If it doesn't come on then the micro switch in the drivers door lock has gone. There is a sticky to fix this, i just got a complete unit from a scrappy.  Why this also may be of interest is that when your micro switch is working properly and you open the drivers door the fuel system primes. If the switch fails the car doesn't prime the fuel system as it doesn't know the door is open, which causes difficulty in starting.

Oh yes 9/10

But i actually had the clutch one fail when i got my cruise control installed. I was a bit perplexed as i didnt even know there was one

Well it turns out that everything was due to water in the connector. I dried it out WD'd it and put it back together with a bag to prevent further ingress.

I seem to have stretched the door release cable somehow so at the minute have to wind down the window to open the door from the outside, the plus side is that I can at least wind the window down!

Will have a look at that tomorrow, all good fun

You won't have stretched it, it will just not be located in the receiver properly. Strip the card off again and re do it. I had to redo mine twice when I did the window runners the other day

Err behind the dash, roughly above the brake pedal. Think you were thinking of a superb mk1 lol

Thanks for that, will have a peep tomorrow

No problem. The hook goes on to the pull handle easy but when you locate the cable end in the hole it sometimes pops out when trying to manoeuvre the door card into place and if your like me you don't realise until you have put most of the screws back in :D

Central convenience module is in its own little bracket kind of above/behind the steering column.  Pretty obvious once you get under and look up. :)

Trying to think if I have a spare but think both of mine sold on Ebay for good money.  Must be a common issue.

This is very fiddle, withe door card off and pulling the door closed the cable releases the catch and the door opens fine. The rubber connector is jammed into the lock. When I put the door card on the cable feels too long and just doesn't release, perplexed...

See it!! there is a wee track behind the handle itself so that that may well be the answer!
