New Mk1 Octavia VRS Owner

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Just purchased a Mk1 Octavia VRS last week from a trader. Always fancied one of these for a while and decided it was perfect timing to get rid of my reliable and trusty W202 Mercedes C200.

So far ownership is well, although engine management light came on within 1 day of purchasing. Battery died on me on the same evening of purchase but we presumed car had been sat in traders unit for quite some time so this was solved by charging it overnight in the house. Engine management light went off but then came back on in 2 days time. Car was also idling rough at idle, jumping fro 750 rpm to 1400 rpm. We found a fractured breather pipe which we fixed at home but the problem remained. Decided to check the car out on OBD machine at a local garage and t pulled up the oxygen sensor for bank 1, which I have duly changed. The revs issue didn't have anything in common with this fault so a mechanic decided to have a little further investigation and found the breather pipe under the inlet manifold completely shredded!!! Not to mention it was the most fiddliest pipe to get to! Bought a new one from TPS and changed it over and the car is idling beautifully. It drives fantastic right now and I am really happy with it. Look forward to using it as a daily and hopefully not having to spend too much on repairs!

Will post some pictures up on the weekend, not had the chance to clean the poor thing properly.

I have a 2.1 pinto that was originally a 1.6 Laser. That car is quite modified and more of a toy than anything. If you are going to buy a 280, i would advise you join the capri power forum as there is useful advice and sometimes cars available too.
