Moisture in the Central Convenience Module is a common cause of your symptoms.

Please can you tell me where the central convenience module is situated in the car

Please can you tell me where the central convenience module is situated in the car

It's mounted centrally and conveniently :D

Heheh, it is under the front passenger seat. Hence, leaking door membranes or seals can allow water into the car, onto the floorpan and into the module.

There is also an outside chance that the driver's door lock module microswitch is faulty too - but check out this module first.

Take the car somewhere and do a Vag-Com scan first.

What model/engine/year is the car.

Most Mk1 CCUs are under the dash roughly above the driver's left knee and don't suffer from water ingress.
