Special Tools

Featured Replies

Often there are special tools for the jobs we do on our cars. I have been trying to track down the special tool for spreading the front bearing housings to release the struts (Which Ross now tells me I can buy direct from VW!!)

Anyway, to the point. I found this US website which carries a lot of VAG special tools and has pictures which you may find useful when trying to find them in the UK or even making your own.

oh and if you do want a hub spreader these look like the ones -

but I've just spoken to my local VW dealer who can get me one tomorrow for

Certainly looks a lot more suitable than the tools we used ;)

After doing the job again this weekend using the 'other' method I have decided to try and be a bit more professional when I do mine. :P

I honestly didn't think VW would sell the tool and I certainly didn't think it would be so cheap.

I've spent a lot of money on tools recently but It is nice to have good tools when you are working.

Could have done with that tool a couple of months back, but we used the good fashioned chisel & hammer approach! :D

Stupid, I know but I'm quite looking forward to getting it - I'm like a kid really.

There's something satisfying about buying new tools! :D

Quick bump for an excellent thread!

I too like Halfords professional tools. Recently purchased a 90pc socket set - excellent value at £89.99 - and a £10 voucher to boot - not forgetting the lifetime warranty it makes an excellent purchase. I also like that you can replace bits when they go missing quite cheaply too... :D

I always try to keep my tools nice and clean too - keeps them working well and feeling fresh for years.
