I'm thinking about getting an 01 1.8 turbo

Featured Replies

As title....never had one (skoda that is) and thought about them, a friend had one a few years ago and seemed to go well but I never drove it, been in a few taxis but that's it. I've had a lot of cars over the years inc BM, merc, Alfa, vx, ford ect ect....but like I say, never Skoda

Being mainly a diesel man now, what will I notice going back to petrol apart from less mpg

I presume you mean a vRS and not one of the rare Elegance or L&K 1.8t 150s.

In that case it's got lots of torque for a petrol but may feel a bit like you're driving everywhere a gear down on what you're used to.

No, just the ordinary turbo

I can't help you much with the 150, because the 180 is much more common. That said,  on a 2004 car, so is the 1.9TDi130.

What do you mean the 150, I know that'll be hp, but it's a petrol I'm looking at.....are the 150 diesels more popular I take it

Sorry meant to put 180 but can't edit

The 130 diesels are way more popular than the 150 petrols is what I meant; the 180 petrol was only available in the vRS in the UK.

Ok......if it's a 1.8 turbo petrol will it be the vrs or just and ordinary one

You will notice less engine noise for a start.

The 1.8t was 150bhp in normal trim and 180 in VRS Spec.

The 1.8t is very popular in Nordic countries due to tax.

Anyway, I have a 2002 Audi A4 with the 1.8turbo, it has the 150 HP map.

It's generally decent, fast enough, but won't be winning any races.

MPG wise I can eek out about 50mpg from it, but generally get around 45mpg.

The engine is good, reliable, watch out for regular service history with Oil change been key.

Look for signs of turbo failure or if it's been changed. Cambelt is also important too.

Otherwise they are pretty bomb proof.

You could get a 1.8t 150 4x4 Octy too at the time :)

Cheers guys

Can the non vrs be tweaked to vrs power

It's a 4x4 I was looking at.....didn't realise they're high rd tax though, well compared to what I'm used to

Yes, it's a simple map to go from 150 - 193, the internals and turbo's are the same on the Audi's from 150hp to the 193, if i recall correctly!

Cheers guys

I've  just picked up a 4x4 Estate with decent history and 121k on the clock for under a grand.

Like I say, it's the high tax putting me off

Like I say, it's the high tax putting me off

I don't think it that high to be honest but I've had a company car for years so all my own weekend cars have been registered before 2001.

It is when you're used to paying £8-90odd for 6 months instead of 150
