Bonnet to grill symmetry

Featured Replies

The Rapid is a good-looking car, I think most of us would agree without hesitation.

Out of curiosity I wonder if any of you have noticed any asymmetry in the relationship of bonnet to grill? Mine has a more noticeable gap on the left side. The bolts etc under the bonnet are untouched and immaculate - it hasn't had a front end shunt!

Perhaps it's a manufacturing quirk?

Nothing to worry about.  They probably dropped it off the transporter somewhere.   On a snowy carpark does it leave four separate wheel lines?.  I had a Ford Escort like that.

Haven't had sufficient snow yet, despite being at 900 feet!

The car was with a hire company before I bought it so HopeI'mRight, I hope you're right! ;-)

I'll upload a pic tomorrow. Very interested to hear if others share this asymnetrical bonnet - grill gap.

I had a quick look at mine to check, looks same distance to me but it was geting dark at the time.  What colour is your car?  that can sometimes give illusions.

Cheers Mark. Sounds obvious but look at the car from the front, standing centrally. My Rapid is silver. The gap between bonnet and grill is greater on the passenger side. Photo to follow tomorrow.

Ahh mine is silver also, will have a look again and let you know.  4 AM at minute so I may look a bit stupid staring at my car in the dark

Cheers VRSbilly

You're not curious about the wonky-looking gap then? Maybe just a factory quirk. I thought mass production was an exact science, but maybe not?

Its nothing I'd notice.

Basis for comparison.....

Well comparing the two I've got to say that your bonnet and grill meet more symmetrically than mine. I like my car, just curious about other rapids.

Cheers.

Its a tiny thing but once you know it's there it bugs you and you always notice it... Been there before.

Considered taking it back to the dealers?

If anyone's Rapid on here matches mine for asymmetry then I might live with it Billy, but if not then I'm tempted to ask the dealer the question.

I will have tto have a look tomorrow, am just back from Manchester and it's dark.  More to follow, re a tape measure.

Are the sides (where it shuts) the same gap? the part above the wings

I think so Mark. I'll check that in daylight and let you know. Interested to hear re yours. Cheers.

The fix could be just a tiny alignment to the bonnet. I wouldnt notice it if u didnt mention that

Thanks Arabas. I might approach the dealer.

After careful looking and measuring mine sits flush, the gap between grill and bonnet is 5mm both side and if it helps the gap between bonnet and wings is also 5mm.  Have a very close look at your grill to make certain it isn't that which isnt exactly stright.

Thanks Mark. Will do.

Welcome, was just a thought re the grill alignment, as it may be one or other  if so maybe best to see your dealer, was is Skoda dealer you got from?

  • Author

It was and I'm emailing it my photos asap. Cheers.

Mark, additionally - on the other end of the bonnet - the corner near the driver's side of the windscreen, it sits up more than the corresponding corner...

That's not right, get it back to the dealer.

Hopefully a simple adjustment needed.
