Help with home cinema 5.1 setup

Featured Replies

Sourced an hd led projector

I have a spare 5.1 speaker set from an old dvd player.

The next bit is the issue

Im wanting to use the 5.1 setup with the projector but the only audio out on the projector is headphone jack!

Now I understand this is only 2 channel and it has no optical out so Im thinking my only option is I need an amp/av receiver between the the video/sound source and projector for optimal sound.

Im doing this on a tight budget so does anybody have any other suggestions?

If my dvd supported hdmi in and output I could have used that but its only scart!

I don't think you will get a stereo output into 5.1 even using a 5.1 receiver.

I could be wrong but you're almost certainly going to need get the 6 separate channels out of the projector or have a digital/optical output that contains all the of the code for the audio.

It will work with hdmi 5.1 receiver as they have numerous hdmi inputs which you put from the source, then theres an hdmi output for the video to the projector and it transfers the sound to you desired devices in my case a 5.1 setup. Only thing is these cost from £70ish for 2nd hand upwards, was hoping there may be a cheaper solution even if its a dvd player with hdmi input and supports 5.1 output

I take it you only have the speakers and not the amp? What are you using to send the picture to the projector? Does it not have and audio output? You could then send the picture to the projector and the sound to wherever you liked.

Just to update

Ive decided to go with the following mostly to save expense at this stage

Logitech 5.1 Z506 sytem

2 front

2 rears

1 centre

1 sub

75 rms watts total

Using the 3.5 jack output with a 3.5 to 2 x female rca adaptor and run 2 channel rca to the logitech unit. This will give me sterio but not full 5.1 although the unit does have 3? sound to try and replicate 5.1 and apparently it does it quite well.

Will be better than a sound bar and cost less than £50

My other option was hdmi av receievr but to costly at this stage
