2.5 TDI V6 Gearbox woes

Featured Replies

Hi all, i haven't posted for a while, which is a good sign i suppose, all has been going well with my trusty Superb.

Long story short, i have 200K clocked up with the old girl, gearbox was overhauled @120K, but last weekend, she flatly refused to engage reverse, and only engaged the "limp" gear (4th) after applying some revs and then engaged with a horrible bang. I managed to get home, put it on the lift and dropped the gearbox. It's a ZF 5HP-19 unit, and i'm looking to buy a second hand unit to replace it. The car is 11 years old, but is in perfect condition apart from this problem, and even though it's practically worthless, i'm reluctant to let her go.

My question is this: What other VW's/Audi's carriued this particular gearbox? What are the consequences of installing a slightly different model number gearbox from a 2.5 tdi Audi A6 for example?

And finally, has anybody here removed the gearbox from one of these before? It was a nightmare to remove due to the box clashing with the subframe, i'm thinking i'll have to drop the entire subframe to re install?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions......

Christy.

Can you just get 4th or can you get 3rd as well?

No just 4th. i know that because i hooked the car up to vag com before i removed the box, and it showed that while i had the lever in D, 4th was actually selected. Also, judging by the engine revs versus actual forward speed, it was definitely 4th......

Basically its a 5HP19FL. Its different from 5HP19 or u can say its an upgraded version of 5HP19. Its comes in Audi, VW Passat & Skoda Superb 2.5tdi V6. Attached here some info. 5hp19flporsche.pdf.
