Just cleaned my furby, and am looking for advice...

Any products actually help the cleaning of alloys?

1) halfrauds foaming wheel cleaner- no :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:

2)Autoglym wheel cleaner- no :thumbdwn:

What about citrus degreaser?? - like the ones used for bikes etc?

I jst get on my hands and knees with a hose and a cloth - takes bloody ages though... Any ideas? They seem to need cleaning about twice a month! :mecry:

The flash thingy is awesome though. Went from relatively sooty/dirty to whole car looking waxed in about 25 mins... Not bad heh? :orb_bounc

Wonder wheels is the only thing that gets my wheels REALLY clean

Do you still need to scrub?

Not if you use baking soda form any supermarket with warm water, its amazing, seems strange but works wonders, almost just washes off...

Brilliantly I'd say... For

I've got some Wonder Wheels but was warned off using it as it's quite harsh and can apparently damage the lacquer on alloys.... luckily my alloys come up a treat with just a bucket of "Wash & Wax" shampoo and a sponge. Used to also use a pressure washer or jet wash which worked well too :D

I bought some really cr@p wheel cleaner from Wilkos - 1.99! It's the best I've used. Spray on, leave 5 mins, wipe off with sponge or whatever and they come up a treat.

Repeat as requiredProduct Mode>

Wonder Wheels for very dirty wheels.

Car shampoo and hot water for normal daily cleaning.

My Fabia used to get washed every 10k miles or 1 year, whichever came sooner ;) Winchester Motor Company used to do an excellent job

Muc off from halfords is really good on the wheels. Alkaline based so doesnt attack (and eventually kill) the alloys like an acid based cleaner would. This sounds like a bit of a cheapo thing to say (student here) but empty it out of the spray bottle into a little container and then use a wheel brush to brush it on, give it a scrub and then rinse thoroughly. Jobs a good'un :)

I used to use Muc Off on my bike...

Just one thing though... What's the difference between an acid and an alkaline? I thought they could both mess things up in suitable concentrations?

A man to my own heart

I just washed my old and new cars with the Flash thing (sold the old one this afternoon) and it does indeed work very nicely. Got incredible amounts of muck off both, and provided you get the drying spray all over the car it really does just air dry with no marks. It's not terribly cheap, but it does the job with very little fuss.

I washed my car with the flash cleaner as well.... works a treat leaves it looking waxed.

However me not being satisfied.. i decided to clay bar, and autoglym my car after... ended up with the same result flash left :o

We seem to be on the same wavelength here. I have washed mine four times since March and that is four more times then any of the other three cars I have owned.

OR

Comma Alloy Cleaner. Very good indeed and cheaper

I would avoid using any acid based cleaner on the alloys - you wouldnt put it on the paintwork and they are essentially the same.

For really dirty alloys.....

apply a degreaser ideally water based

use a double the normal concentration of shampoo and water and clean using a alloy brush and/or sponge.

just the latter should do if they are not too dirty.

what ever is left is generally the burnt on crud that you will need to polish off.

PVCu cleaner is excellent for disgustingly filthy alloy wheels. It dissolves tar, grease, brake dust etc. You can get it from any plastic stockists at about

Yesterday after reading this I got the bicarbonate of soda out. (basically the same as baking soda, although I have been advised not to put it in a cake). Put a couple of table spoons in warm water, went out to the car with an alloy wheel brush thingy from halfrauds (
