Morning all, as part of my clean up and refresh for my Octy, ive been looking for a replacement handbrake button,

never had one, now i want one...

found this on ebay, (after my nearest dealer quoted €75 for one as it comes with the cowl etc, think he may have been checking the mk2 parts list... nearly cacked myself when he told me!! )

I know it will fit, has the right part number, and looks the right shape.

problem is ive contacted the seller about shipping cost to Ireland, but no reply...

wondering if anybody else is part of the 90 sold by this guy, and how much was the shipping?

not much point if he's going to charge stupid money to ship it...

yeah, but... i emailed them on the 18th... still nothing back.

I do know it seems to include the entire push rod assembly, going by the pictures they have of it,

which is nice, it'll be another small thing renewed after 155k miles of use!

Just sent them my question again, after putting it through Google Translate to German...

just in case thats why they never replied...

In the end I found a good condition entire lever with chrome secondhand unit.  Let us know how this progresses.

I wish i had a peeled one... Dont even have that! just the top of the push rod..

Mines not chipped still in good condition after 133thou miles

Update :  it arrived yesterday by post from Germany

 

as i thought / hoped, its the full button and pushrod assembly, for about 6 quid and 5 for postage.

 

havnt fitted it yet, as i have works van out on call at the minute, but the weekend shall hopefully see fitting done

I don't know why you just don't pull the plastic end off a octy in a scrappy..

 

I used a pair of pliers and and just softly pulled. 

 

I have 3 spares now;)

 

The sliver chrome end pulls off really easy and is just clipped in place.

 

Other vag group buttons fit as well i think.

couldnt find any Octy's in Scrappy's around my way :(

 

Didnt know other group cars would fit....

 

ahwell...shiny new, and given how much i saved on my brake renewals, and fixing my lumbar winders,

I dont mind spending the couple of quid on the button and rod... It'l be in the service history when i trade

okay, so having got the Octy back from work,

ive had a look and cant figure out how to get the push rod out of the hand brake lever.....

any ideas?

I bought a this exactly item from a main dealer in Belfast who surprisingly had it in stock!! Like yourself I didn't really want to strip the hand brake. So there fore I put the new lever in a cup of boiling water and the button came off easy enough with a slight tap from a screw driver.

mm, i was hoping to use the full thing, seeing as i bought it.. had another look in daylight, and it appears the casing is rivetted around the rod?

might be just using the button.... balls.

Gave up and pulled the button off the new rod.

centre console looks sooo much better.

just need a fresh gear knob and gator now to freshen the place up fully

 

was tempted to get a leather Golf hand leaver cover, but the 75quid was a tad off putting...
