Whishbones

Featured Replies

Any one got a simple step by step for wish bone replacements on a vrs???

I'm reasonably competent just want some pointers

Cheers

lemforder ones are better quality

Reports of cheap eBay ones snapping, others bushes lasting weeks. Either get lemforder ones or fit polyurethane bushes

Sorry should have made it clear I'm talking in terms of a fitting guide

There's a huge bolt (faces toward front of car) that needs undoing, then the bottom ball joint needs undoing.  I am not sure you actually need to drop the subframe though.

PS: I have a spare pair of wishbones (original)

I'll bear that in mind...... Price??

Do you have to compress the springs??

Bottom ball joint,  The 3 bolts bolt into the wishbone,

The Front bush, Horizontal bolt.

Rear bush, Vertical bolt.

Looks like it will just pull out, unlike the Fabia where you have to drop the subframe.

Basing this on pictures i'm looking at.

No need to compress the spring.

No need to compress the spring.

Don't split the balljoint, just undo the three (triangle) bolts under the wishbone!

Should take about an hour, depending on ability!

Cool thanks

How'd you get on essexocty? I'm going to be doing mine next week.

I haven't done anything on the skoda yet so not sure how it'll be. I've done it all before on old beemers so hopefully not too different.

Right job done

I did buy a new ball joint as I wanted to make sure it was sound and to be honest, apart from not having an 18mm socket???? It was ok

The ball joint put up some resistance but I headed up the cast section and walloped it and it came free

It's made a bit of a difference but there is still a bit of play which I suspect might be the rack arghhhhhhhhhhhhh

More likely to be the inner trackrod ends, rather than the rack itself.

They were done recently, there's no play in them so I'm looking further a field.

Maybe for how much they cost I should just swap them out

have you changed the ARB drop links?

  • Author

Yeah drop links were done about 15k ago but it's does feel like it's steering if that makes sense?

There's a bit of tracking even in a straight line
