Service milage

Featured Replies

I was just wondering how many people zero their trip counter or take note of their cars milage when dropping it off for a service?

I do this every time that I remember to and after dropping it off for a new rear badge to fitted (a while back now), I realised that the car had been used by the dealer as it had an xtra 20 miles on the clock, needless to say that I wasn't impressed.

I did ask why but never got a satifactry answer, so I take my car & cash elsewhere now.

i always do.

I'd be fine with a couple of miles, but I'd be annoyed with 20 miles.

I recently had my car's body work repaired at the nearest Skoda body shop to me in Winchester, which is a 60 mile round trip, and I was told that to save me driving to and from there, they'd pick it up and bring it back on a lorry. Only when I asked when I got it back why I had hardly any petrol left that they said 'oh yeah sorry the lorry wasn't available'. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying still at the time.

Hi Millsy, you can't help wondering how they've driven your car, as you'd like to think they'll treat it with care?

Did they wash it for you after the work had been done?

I'd not be happy with above , take it in with low fuel light on simples :)

I had to ask the MOT tester if the fuel light on was a fail... she said no, as long as it doesn't run out of fuel on the test. Fortunately no road test on an MOT :)

I always take note of mileage too.

Suspicious lot! I'm going to state the milage into the mic on my Blackvue next time I take her in. Easy then to compare when I pick it up, but I expect there will be no probs TBH

Or you could just take a photo with a smart phone, most of them are date and time stamped, possibly even geo-tagged if you've activated that. A lot more difficult for the dealer to to disprove than just zeroing it, which can be done at any stage and you won't notice unless you've recorded the mileage as well.

I also do this with receipts for online purchases, ie take a phot of the screen.

Thankfully I do have a Blackvue camera installed so when I got it home I watched the whole thing from when they took it, to when it was in the body shop, to when they drove it back. Didn't speed and didn't do much more than 60 most of the time on the motorway, so can't complain about the driving.

And yeah, they washed and polished it. (Although white marks from the polish always seen to appear a couple of days later)

Like I said, not the end of the world, but would have been nice to have been told before! :)
