VRS Blackline

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Currently have a 1.4 tsi SE. Been thinking about changing for a mk 3 of some description.

However at the weekend went to a dealer on another matter with swmbo. She promptly spotted a standard mk 2 VRS and commented on how nice it was...

Now I'm thinking about nearly new Blacklines that are starting to appear on the used market. So....

Is the Blackline a potential future "classic" that might hold value or should I just stick to looking at all VRS' s?

Are there any specific things to look out for with mk 2 VRS's and/or the Blackline in particular?

Petrol or diesel? DSG or manual? I have a 30 mile round trip for work every day but it's all straight A-roads.

Cheers for any info/help

Steve

Doubt the Blackline will become a classic, just has a good few extras bolted on for a nice price near the end of the run. It's not numbered on the seats or anything overly special.

I've got one and it's ace.

If your buying look at the whole VRS range and see what you get for your money.

If anything MK2's should loose value more as the MK3's hit the used market. Especially as they will be similar age.

The Blackline is a nice car, full leather, satnav/bluetooth phone (if you follow my how to) black wheels, maxidot and rear parking sensors. I have diesel manual hatch and love it.

It's my second FL so not much different, I think Skoda missed a trick not fitting auto lights and wipers.

My old Jan 13 62 plate white DSG estate is for sale at Jewsons in Oxford. 11.5k miles, frankly immaculate and has the OEM Bluetooth on it already. On the pricey side at 18,995 but its a beaut.

To be fair cars with their spec level (were the only UK spec MK2's to be fitted with the DAB+ version of the Amundsen + nav unit which IMHO was an excellent bit of kit) are few and far between; cars with the black neptunes also being on the rare side so they tend to get snapped up.

Thanks for the replies.

What's the mpg like on the vrs (petrol and diesel)? I'm getting 42mpg from my 1.4, not expecting anything like this from the petrol vrs but what does it do in the real world? Does the dsg suit both engines? I've heard it's a better gearbox on the petrol engine.

Thanks.

Steve.

Blackline is only diesel. Around town it's not so good 42-44mpgish but on a long journey I get 54-57mpg.

I get 50+ from the derv.

I get late 40s in my black line with a high % of motorway driving and using the majority of the power most of the time :-)

I had the 1.4 SE+ before my Blackline and was getting the same mpg as you. I'm getting long term 48mpg and that includes some spirited driving and I drive it more quickly than I did the 1.4. Try one, you won't be disappointed, not quite as smooth a ride but thats to be expected with lowered suspension and low profile tyres and the engines a bit noisier but it goes a LOT better! Loads of car for the money if you can find one. The standard petrol is quicker and cheaper to buy, but costs more to run and petrol consumption can be scarey if you drive quickly, sub 30 mpg is quite common and don't expect much more than mid 30s unless your doing long distance cruising or in miss daisey mode. Try them both and see what you think. The dsg is a bit marmite TBH and is better suited to the petrol. Ultimately the petrol is the better performer, but the diesel does most of what you need most of the time a lot cheaper. Pays your money......
