cruise control

Featured Replies

hi has anybody fitted a new cruise control arm   ,,,,is it easy or is it easier to get one fitted in a garage ?    thanks.

lols its ALWAYS easier to get someone else to do work for you

But its not the biggest job in the world for someone savvy (not as big as changing a clutch). But still about 3 times more difficult than changing a car stereo.

given you will need

- reprogramming the car to enable cruise

- dismantling the wheel including the (explosives) airbag

- routing the wiring to the ECU

etc

This may help

Carlos has a vRS SE, so would already have it all there.

My guess is maybe he has a problem with the stalk itself? And wants to replace it like for like.

So you have one already and you want to replace it?

Very easy change if that's the case.  Steering wheel off, cowl off, stalk off, stick new stalk on, cowl back on, stick steering wheel back on.

Don't forget that the stalk very very very rarely break or go faulty.  The brake switch though will cause the cruise to deactivate if it's faulty.

hi yeah ,the cruise still works but the stork itself is very loose ,,ie,,turning on the cruise makes the indicators flash when you hit a bump in the road .

It may only need tightening up or may be just the plug & socket needs pushing together, I think when you strip the surrounds away it will be fairly clear what the problem is.

OH and the sodding heater resistor that I couldn't  even get my fat fingers on .

Seat belt is easy; remove the trim panels, pull out the seat belt and spray WD40 liberally on the recoil mechanism. Then let the seatbelt retract, then pull out and let retract several times. It should work fine now.

Re the sloppy gear change, it may be worth looking at the 'Group Buy' section of the forum, look down the column for the "42 Draft / Verdict" entry, they are supposed to be excellent and remove the slack.

However, it may also be worn bushing in the gear selector rods/mechanism, so check this first.

You buy the resistor and I'll fit it for you. I did mine last year. I can send you the eBay link for the one I purchased if you want.

By springs I presume you mean suspension? Is the vRS lowered? If not I have standard springs here you can have to sort that.

hiya matt ,iv'e got the resistor .just couldn't get my frigging fingers in ,,the spring I mentioned is the one that's broken the selector (when you release the gearlever it just stays where u leave it and doesn't spring back to the centre )

Ah right. Can't help with the spring then sorry.

Don't mind popping round and doing the resistor though if you need.
