Selling a highly modded Yeti.

Raise the cash on your main home. Probably cheaper than raising foreign funds or funds to invest abroad.

Its always an option but Id rather simply sell something to raise the initial funds. :)

The wife  Sorry couldn't resist Lee.

I think 33q (Nigel) is heading somewhere with borrowing the money over 5 years or so though, rates are stupidly cheap at the moment.

The hard thing, as you know is trying to price the Yeti, it could be a very limited market. Not many people would consider scouring the likes of Piston Heads etc for a 300 bhp + Yeti, that's covered by the likes of the Scoobys, BM's etc.

Plus with selling the Yeti to raise the funds would you still not get the itch to do something similar in a year or 2's time? I've read a few posts that you had a couple of Octys that were fettled with and now Beti, maybe funding from elsewhere could be the way to go?

Either way Lee good luck with the quest

The only option is really a forum like this and you can see with the posts there is a lot of interest but having said that everyone wants to buy it but no-one will put a hand in their pockets, and unfortunately there are not many "Richards" about. .

You will probably find that if and when you do sell it you will get more interest and posts from members saying they would have bought it etc etc...

Just my opinion and not meaning to wee on your strawberrys and really hope is does sell for you as it seems a truly great car.

I would have it in an instant, if the numbers stacked up for me. A  tuned Yeti is just what I want.

Trouble is, the likely figure it'll go for is around the top of my budget, and with that money I was intending on looking for a CR170 and mapping it.

With the additional fuel cost (calculated earlier in this thread, and probably still optimistic), increased insurance, and then the increased depreciation of a highly modded petrol compared to a CR170 once it's up to around 100k miles to take into account, I just couldn't justify the figures.

Plus my options for selling on in future would be limited - as discussed here, such a niche private sale market, traders perhaps wouldn't want it as a trade-in or if they did, would probably offer reduced values.

If it was going for say, £12k, there's a chance the reduced asking fee could make it stack up for me personally, but I doubt that'll happen !

You're absolutely right there as Richard already offered that and was outbid by Sparkly to the tune of £12,000.01p. Try to keep up chap! ;)

I was going to throw in a mars bar too, but figured the thread would get a bit silly. :giggle:

Clearly it's got a limited market, probably with a buyer already being on here.

But I think similar to Lee above, rather than sell, then buy something else in a year and start tweaking that do what you can to fund the property another way.

In the grand scheme of things it'll be far more expensive to do that than to keep the car and enjoy it.

Unless you have a screw loose (like me) in which case I look forward to the next project. :D

Why not keep the Yeti and sell the Fiesta, I know its not going to raise as much money but it will sell much faster???

I'm in the brigade of keep it and try and raise funds elsewhere.

In my younger days I heavily modified a BMW spending thousands on the engine, brakes, suspension etc. but when I tried to sell it had all sorts of problems. The dealers were not interested in a trade in and it sat for months awaiting a private buyer. Most people were put off by the cost of parts if it went wrong or they thought it had probably been thrashed having such a high BHP, then when I did get a bite the bloke who was going to buy it cancelled because of the hike in insurance costs.

I ended up selling it for around £2k less than a standard model and vowed never to go down the route of hotting up cars again

Im pretty loathed to sell the Yeti tbh - had a great drive in it last night and it really made me, again, wonder, why id even contemplate it tbh! Needs must though but i am looking at every other avenue before she has to go. :)

I have modified cars all my life (not recently though - too old),

I believe you were asking about coilovers when you ordered your Yeti? :giggle:

Edited by DaleW

I am getting lost in all the posts with bits of info here and there.

Bottom line:

1. How much?

2. Pics

3. History

4. List of options

5. List of mods

Thanks

Be quiet Dale   - that was our secret.

Having said that, I must admit to still being a bit partial to a minor makeover - my cars that is and not me.

So can I just clarify, I currently have the winning bid, yes?

Me to.

Like you, been there/done that - lesson learned.

Most dealers, as you state won't touch modified cars, unless that is the market they specialise in, so that limits any seller of such a car to the private market.

I really hope that Yeti_Man can sell at a figure he feels is right, but from many years of my own experience of modified cars, you have to be very very lucky to sell at book.  More often as not though, you end up selling at a lesser figure than if the car was standard (just look at what unmodified/original Cossies and Imprezas sell for, as opposed to their modified counterparts).

I've not yet put it up for sale but spec is fully listed in my sig and the sig also contains the link to the project thread where all the answers should be. :)

I guess so! But just to join the sellers bandwagon... 'I reserve the right to sell elsewhere!' ;)

Don't do it! ;-)

But if needs must I'd look to sell on here; most likelihood of finding the right type of buyer.

I too would price between 15-16k.

Wow - this has to be the ultimate Yeti. Sheesh at >300BHP... Should show the new Posche Macan owners up (and as such is a very tempting proposition!). Good luck with the sale (I'm sure you already considered an ad in Performance Car, Briskoda etc)...

Somebody call?

I part exchanged mine and got around the figure you are talking about. They didn't seem bothered about the mods, as in reality they were quite minor.

It was me who reminded the OP that you would be best placed to comment, as you were the only member I could recall selling a modified Yeti.

I got offered £14,250 and 14.5k as a straight trade in yesterday so Im not too worried about that aspect tbh. If I traded it in via the dealer route I could always put the S3 intercooler, ARB's and KO4 turbo up for sale seperately as I have all the orignal items boxed up in the shed still! :)

Personally I think that would be a better bet.

But I think you already know that, it's just that you don't want to see such a well set up Yeti get dis-assembled.

Exactly that! :)

Let me know if you are going to split.

Would have been better a few weeks back... but APR are getting right on my goat.

Still no downpipe delivery ideas, about a month on. :wonder:

They've recently changed shipping companies apparently.

I'd be interested in the ARBs if you do split.
