The front passenger door lock on my 2005 vRS needs changing. I've read various guides about doing it, and fairly confident I can manage it.

 

A couple of questions, though:

 

Do I need to reseal the carrier when I refit?

Is the door lock mechanism dealer only?

When I had to remove my front passenger carrier, I didn't reseal it and it hasn't leaked and that was about a year ago. I re-riveted it back on with smaller rivets next to the old holes because I was on a tight budget and it's done fine. Perhaps the front's don't leak as easily?

 

Not sure on the mechanism, I replaced mine with one from a scrappys.

Mine were sealed by the dealer under warranty years ago.

 

Any one else got any thoughts on the mechanism? There seems to be a few on eBay but I'm unsure if the are correct?

Ive replaced 3 of my dor locks with the £50 ones from flebay and they are oem quality ive got my fourth one to do ( front passenger ) i wil then have to get the central locking reset as the in car lock and unlock button locks the three changed locks for a secondand then they unlock again. I have also removed the push rods for the locking knob indicator as they are a pain to get back in. The chrome indicators are glued into the door card in the locked position
