Philips X-Treme Bulbs Blowing

Featured Replies

Just had two of these blow after only 5 months of use? Is this normal?

Would have expected these to last much longer considering how much they are compared to normal bulbs, when the first one blew i put my standard back in and it looked identical to the Philips bulb!

Maybe have to try some Osrams.

Hi,

I've had the Philips X-tream vision in the Scout for about 3 years now with no problem. I suspect either yours possibly from a bad batch. Have a word with the seller.

Your not handing the bulb glass with your bare fingers, are you?

That alone will certainly shorten their life.

No, i made sure when installing them to only hold the back of the bulb and not touch the glass.

Ill get onto amazon and see if they can send me out a free replacement pair!

I used these in both my Octavias and found the set for the Octy II (the most recently bought set) blew quite quickly and needed replacing

Well, that was easier than expected. Probably should have tried that before making a post! Amazon sending out a new pair express delivery

Cant complain about the customer service there ;)

Do u have ur headlights switched on when starting the car,   it can cause a power spike which can blow lights faster than normal.

on a seperate note,  I had philips too,  they were bright, but lasted less than 12months too.    Switched to using Osram nightbreakers, and they seem to last about 12-18months before blowing,    so I'd suggest swapping to Osrams in future.   Just as bright,  if not better

The Philips Extremes etc have tended to last about 3>4 years in my wife's 9N Polo, latest pair had a failure after about 1>2 years - so I don't know if that is coincidence. I accept that they will never have the life of the ones that get run at lower temperatures, but 3>4 years seemed okay considering the extra light they give out. I'm just waiting for the other side to go before changing it.
