Monte Carlo Tech PDI Questions

Featured Replies

Hi all

Found a dealer who still has a few '63 plate pre reg'd in Jan 2014 Monte Carlo Tech's (Black 1.2 TSI 105bhp Hatches only) available for £11k.

Going to check one out and value my part ex tomorrow but I had a couple of queries...

1 - Tyres.

My parents have just taken delivery of a new Monte Tech Black Hatch 1.2TSI which is fitted with Continentals.  The '63 pre reg one I'm looking at tomorrow has Dunlops and I've seen a few threads reporting issues with cars pulling to the left, particularly on Dunlops and a number of cases where tyres have been changed FOC.  Skoda UK customer services say "we don't know of any issues" unsurprisingly.  Anyone have any good advice/experience with this?  I understand that poor setup may be the root cause of the issue and 4 wheel alignment the cure...

2 - DAB.

Monte Tech's have the Amundsen+ unit but no DAB and you can't add any options above standard spec.

No problem with this but I asked Skoda customer services if DAB can be retrofitted and they said it could be done for £90 by the dealer who needs to fit option code "QV3" (or something similar, need to check on the email I received) to the standard unit, as if it was just a case of fitting the DAB aerial and recoding the unit. Anyone had this done?  Seen a few threads saying you basically need to have a look at the back of the unit, but in theory the units in the Tech's can't be upgraded and won;t have to DAB aerial connection...

Cheers!

Bought the same model with Dunlops on, around 5 weeks ago. Done over a thousand miles and running straight as a die.

Asked about adding DAB when I bought mine. Dealer said they knew somebody who could do it for £250! Didn't bother!!

Hope this helps.

No issues so far with my Dunlop's and haven't even thought about DAB, thought mine was a steal at £11,990,00 so for £11k I'd say it was a no brainer!

I'd be interested to find the proper VCDS code to activate the DAB on the Amundsen as I was told by Skoda customer services that it couldn't be done when I bought my Tech.

Apparently there should be a plug on the back of the head unit where the ariel needs to fit but our units aren't supposed to have this.

Mine definatley doesn't have dab. I've taken it out. No dab aerial socket.

Cheers garpat32, saved me taking mine out.

So Skoda customer services are right this time then, when I ordered my Tech last April they said that the Techs didn't come with Maxidot despite the Configurator saying that Maxidot came with Bluetooth.

I had dab in me last car ( aftermarket HU) and tbh I find the Bluetooth streaming I have now a lot more useful, and if I really want I can stream other radio channels from me phone.

If there was a factory HU that was equal to the Amundsen+, ie sat nav, Bluetooth etc but added dab I may look at it in the future.

The new Amundsen can be specced with DAB at the factory but it's not going to be cheap to fit retro.

It has the plug in the back, a thread quite a while back had photos of it and what it looked like. The ariel itself is peanuts to buy and easy to fit but there's no way to plug it into our HUs.

Might try the Bluetooth streaming, only did it for stored music up to now.

DAB can't be enabled on some units, I tried and it was rejected on a Monte Carlo Tech.

apart from that you would need the Roof antenna which is over £100 and an extension cable

Thanks for your replies. Seems that the pulling left thing has affected a few cars but the majority are fine. Test drove one today and I had no issues. Turns out is was on Continental Contact Sports! These are easy to spot as they have "Continental" written on the sidewall (amongst other things) so I'm not sure what the sales guy was looking at when he told me it was on Dunlops?!?

No go on the DAB front unfortunately. It's a different head unit with an integral DAB module not fitted to the Tech. No retrofit. :-(

Ended up buying the car. A '63 plate with 10 miles on the clock ( driven from storage lockup to the dealer), registered on 28/01/2014 again, to the dealer. Listed at £11,290.00. Managed to haggle my part ex up by £300 more than anywhere else and got a spare wheel and set of mats thrown in. They have 3 left within the group - Ridgeway Skoda Reading/Newbury.

Picking it up next Saturday once they've updated the Sat Nav maps to V5 and changed a couple of coding things - Auto lock at 15mph, unlock when key is removed from ignition, 1 press to open drivers door, 2 presses to open everything.

Nice one, you will be pleased with it I'm sure :)

The car comes as standard with one press drivers door and 2 press everything else.

I had mine changed to one press lock/unlock as it was a pain in the a**e.

Interesting about v5 mapping, will see at service if they will update mine but I doubt there'll be much difference though.

mmmm, very interesting to hear about the maps, as I just had a conversation with Skoda this week about maps and upgrades, they said that there was no upgrade for Amundsen+ maps until at least 2015 and it would be a cost to upgrade, not free!!!

Just checked the map version on the Monte Tech my parents took delivery of a couple of weeks ago and it has "WesternEuropeV5" maps installed.

I only picked up on this as my house was a new build in 2012 in a new postcode area. I couldn't find my postcode on the car I test drove (V4 maps)

but I could on my parents car.

Picking mine up on Saturday - Ordered one of the rubber boot mats from Skodaparts, Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited H7 bulbs to improve the headlights and an MDI/iPhone lead from Amazon for £9.

Think about taking the rear wheels off to spray the drums with this stuff whilst they are new, before they inevitable start to rust.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/HYCOTE-XUK0121-Engine-Aerosol-Spray/dp/B003AN5VBC
