Thousands of motorists could have their speeding convictions quashed after claims the authorities forgot to update road orders on three of Scotland’s trunk roads, The Courier can reveal.

Drivers caught speeding on Kingsway and Arbroath Road in Dundee and on a section of the Tay Road Bridge may have been wrongly convicted after the apparent blunders.

But they were still speeding:angry:

I don't think they'll be refunding 20 years of fines

I hope not anyway

They'll also be liable for any increases in insurance or if someone lost their job.

There was a similar case like this recently where compensation claims ran in to tens of millions

You screw up, you pay for it. Seems fair to me. Wasn't any different for those who got done for speeding.

But they were still speeding

They may not have been though, that is the fundamental nature of this case

for example in the stated example - if a 60 limit had been changed to a 30 via a temporary TRO, it would revert to 60 once that order had expired

The signage at the side of the road would then have been incorrect

Anyone caught driving at the original speed limit would have to be presumed to know that the TRO had expired

Mind you - if it could be proved the council knew they were deliberately posting incorrect speed limits and the police prosecuting for folks speeding knowing the real speed limit of the road, would that not be fraud ?
