Runway Performance 926 tyre

Featured Replies

My front tyres have clocked 15,000 miles now and need a change. I don't drive my Octavia Blackline hard, or try to go round corners at light speed.

Blackcircles offering these fitted for £66.60 each. Seems a good tyre from the info that's out there. Looks like a new design from Runway?

I normally go for Avon ZZ5's as replacement tyres, but may try these Runways next to see what they are like.....?

Those Runway tyres are a totally different tread design. Granted the Enduro Runway range did get poor reviews, the new design looks much better.

Primewell pz900 i think will be a similiar price and are a very good tyre.

Two things you don't skimp on with cars.......Brakes and Tyres! It's what keeps you on the ground and what stops you.

Performance is desirable, stopping is essential!

Please. I'm not advocating buying ditchfinders am I? I'm asking if anyone has an opinion on a new design of tyre from Runway? Yes they are cheap, but if they do a job great.

I may yet try them. Then at least I will know and I can inform others, rather than spout the usual "don't buy cheap tyres" argument. There ARE decent cheaper tyres out there. Car owners that blindly pay a fortune for "better" brand name tyres that are often no better must have too much money. I for one am always looking for the cheaper option.

I had Runways on the Rallye (they were on when I bought it) and they weren't great to be honest.  They were okay for pottering, but if you needed to corner or stop at more than a pedestrian pace they didn't inspire confidence.  After swapping them for a more expensive brand, things improved.

Price up the primewells :)

When i bought my car it had them on the back and they were almost at the limit, they seemed fine so replaced like for like and are still fine. I also bought cheap brakes off ebay.. Also fine :)

Super duper mega expensive tyres is no substitute for careful driving

Very true.  However, careful is different to having to do an emergency stop or swerve round an unexpected obstacle.

I could be the most careful driver in the world but others may not be.  I wasn't talking about hooning around, merely knowing that the four small contact patches of rubber keeping me on the road will do just that should I ask them to.

Looking at the old Runway Enduro 916 tread pattern and reviews - I would have not even bothered.....but the new Performance 926 Runway tread pattern looks ok to me.....category B wet braking can't be bad?

It does look better to be honest.  Have you considered the Uniroyal Rainsport 3s?  I've got them on the Ignis and I am more than impressed by their performance.  I too look for a bargain and these have yet to get a bad review so I took the plunge and got a full set.  I'm not sure what size you need, but they were amazing value for the size I need - 195 50 15.

Would you believe it. I'd decided to try the Runway's to see what they were like. So I've just gone onto Blackcircles to find out the Runway's have been removed.

Typical. Anyway, gone for some Falkens instead. £88 each fitted. Not bad at all.

Maxxis tyres are pretty cheap and I found them very good other than being LOUD.

Falkens get a good write up at a budget price too.

I'm presently finding that Maxxis seem to be quiter than Toyo T1-R, at least on the back.

I had MA-Z1 on the car (still do on the rear). changed the previous rears out due to sawtoothing but alighment seems to have fixed that.

I thought they were excellent value, really grippy in all weathers. Got through some atrocious snow on new ones too. The big rim flange saved the alloys on a good few occasions too.

Noise and efficiency ratings are very low. I noticed quite a big change going to the Goodyears on the front but the car drove better on the Maxxis.

Saw-toothing is one problem you don't seem to get with torsion beam axles. As for a "low efficiency rating", did you know that the difference between a A and G efficiency rating is about 2% on a full set?

All I can say from experience is that I'm seeing 2-3mpg more on average than I did before. I'll definitely change the other two to the Eco tyres when they're due.
