Skoda Octavia Clutch Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, first post here :)

I'm finally upgrading from my first car - a tiny fiat panda - and I'm in the market for an Octavia. I went to try one out today, 81,000 miles, £1,495 and with "full" service history.  The car seemed fine until I got in and found that the clutch was very low - about 2 inches off the floor.  I pressed it a couple of times but it didn't pop up until I actually lifted it from underneath with my foot!

I'm not buying this one anyway as the dealer didn't seem to know a lot about the car and had no idea if or when the timing belt had been changed, but I just wanted to know what is likely to be causing this, how much it could cost to fix and how common a problem it is on older Octavias.

Thanks in advance, David

is a master cylinder failure, well known....the part is about 40 pounds plus labour
