I am a happy Skoda driver currently driving a Superb 4x4 manual combi.

My dad has decided to replace his Vauxhall Mervia for an automatic. I have suggested a used Fabia Estate DSG and as he only does approx 10k a year suggested Petrol. Looking at used models and he is concerned that he haas to have a big engine. So I am wondering which is better in terms of performance the 1.2tsi or the 1.6. I know the BHP is the same but wondered what the overall package is like.

They will be doing round town driving and occasional trips down the M5 to their caravan 250 ish mile round trip.

VRS is out of the question as I don't want him to kill himself ;o)

Which is the best model to go for? Budget is 8k

If it's predominantly around town the 1.2 tsi is good

1.2tsi is a brilliant little engine, it's up there with 1.6 performance of only a few years ago.

1.2 tsi is more suitable for the mileage you do, and performance is good

Diesels do have more torque though, so that would be better for pulling a caravan

1.2 TSI would be the best option if it's mostly town driving with the odd motorway cruise.

i concur 1.2 , your Dad would be suprised how good it is, it may seem small in "traditional" terms, but packs a big punch

Didn't think you could have the diesel with dsg anyway?
