2WD 110 to 312mm brake conversion

Featured Replies

I've seen a lot of info about what is likely to be needed to be needed to upgrade the brakes on the CR110 Yeti to the same spec as the CR170, but has anyone actually done it?

It would be nice to know what was actually involved (and also what it cost) before considering such a job.

And has anyone upgraded the rears also? Will the brakes from the 170 fit?

Not on a Yeti but I've done it on a Seat Ibiza and a VW Passat.

Depends what type of hub/caliper is fitted on the 110.

If you're lucky you just change the caliper carrier, and fit larger discs (pad type and calipers don't change)

If you're unlucky you need complete new hub assembly, caliper, carriers etc.

...which is exactly why I'm keen to see if anyone's done it on a 110 :)

No, tis the complete install, no short cuts, thats only possible with the 140--> 170 setup, I looked at it, and decided with my tuning box that i would normally drive withinthe capabilities of the original system, others recommend upgrading the pads to ferodo's, someone will probably have those details.

Octygone(longtime gone from the Yeti site) remapped 110 --> lots, but continued with the base brakes without probs

Are there any ESP/DSC issues to consider?

Yes converting a 110 front brakes to a larger size is an expensive affair, as the bearing housing needs replacing along with all the calliper and disc parts.

I wonder do the Cupra2 345mm discs (as sold on AwesomeGTI) fit under OEM 17x7 rims?

Quite possibly, as a number of the cars they list come with OEM 17x7 rims, however the Yeti 110 isn't on that list (and is explicitly excluded as it comes with the FSIIIs)

I doubt it to be honest.

From my thread in the project section... ( http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/226003-the-twins-and-yeti-vrs/page-8 )

We've just cut out the PB Brakes templates and checked them against a stock Yeti wheel rim.

The 345mm kit was fine other than it just rubbed the outside edge of the rim (would need different style or 18").

The 330mm 6 pot kit was perfect, no contact at all and around 3mm or so spare.

So following on from helpul info from Sy and Charlie...

Looks like the 330mm 6 pot kit is the one to go for anyway. :)

You may need rims designed with more clearance to get 345mm brakes on the Yeti.

Assuming the PB 345mm kit is similar to the Cupra 345mm one.

You may need to upgrade the Master Cylinder too.
