61,000 mile service ...

Featured Replies

Just got the MKII back from a main dealer service today and the report is all is well, no faults at all. I'm very happy as I only have the car two weeks ( already done 1,400 miles). They did an oil service and that was all it needed. I asked about the timing belt / water pump and ancillaries and they informed me that it would be due at 180,000 KM (110,000 miles aprox.) with no time limit ... I know there is some debate around the belt and pump change intervals ... Away ya go lads.!

Happy chappy,

Rob

Congratulations.

So why in the UK are we told 80,000 miles / 120,000 k's?

It couldn't be..........

Maybe............

Am I just being cynical.............

No I don't believe it..........

Don't tell me that Dealers in the UK, in conjunction with SUK, may be ripping us off compared to Ireland and the rest of Europe

Congratulations.

Are we?

My colleagues SEAT Alhambra (2.0 TDi CR) doesn't need a cambelt until 140,000 miles (apparently)

I thought that'd open a small can of worms alright ..!

Believe me  if there was any doubt about the belt, I'd have it done but Skoda over here were adamant about the interval. Others on this forum also agree that Skoda UK are being less than truthful about belt changes. Perhaps an inquiry to Skoda CZ might be worthwhile ...

Very best,

Rob

Coops

You appear to have a similar engine to both myself, and your colleague withe the SEAT i.e. a 2.0 l CR.

Mine is currently on 64,000 miles, and is due for a service in about 12,000.

2 weeks ago after having a bit of warranty work done I was told that at the next service the belt & pump would need doing as they should be done at 80,000 miles or 4 years (car is 3 1/2 years old)

I'm on 66k, BJM - due service in around 8-9k. I will check with our service agent.

Some difference across 80k, 110k and 140k.

Just to clarify my own position ... I gave Skoda Ireland my chassis number and they were very specific that mine was 180,000km or 110,000 miles (CR170 CFGB) ...

Hope this helps,

Rob

I have just checked my service logbook and it states that every 60,000km or at 4 years whichever comes first "CHECK condition and tension of ribbed v belt". CHANGE belt at 150,000km for PD engines and 210,000km for CR engines. Not applicable to CEGA, CBDB, CBBB engines.

I have a Seat Leon 1.6TDI CR.

Handbook says: 120k, 4 years

Seat customer services told me: 140k, 5 years,

Seat dealer no.1 said : 80k, 5 years

Seat dealer no.2 said 60k, 5 years

Seat dealer no.3 said 50k, 5 years

Seat customer services said: 140k, 4 years

Seat customer services then said: 140k, 5 years, after telling me the previous guy had made a mistake.

(all distances in miles)

So in all honesty, I haven't a ******* clue.

Going off the law of averages I was told by a guy I know who works in a SEAT garage, he said aim for 80k, 5 years, as 80k seems to be around the common failure point for most previous belts. The new belt is supposed to be uprated, but do you want to take that chance?

The only thing that seems right is that the time interval was increased to 5 years.

I also questioned , when should I change the timing belt etc, when I got my last service, as the car would be 5 years old, when next variable service, will be due, and I was also told 180,000 KM, and that there was no need to change it after 4 years.

Is it not to do with these new Continental Contiflex belts. Some engines aren't switch over yet.
