Fabia 2 1.2 Htp 70 - sticking throttle, when the engine is warm

Featured Replies

Hi all, please can I ask for some thoughts/suggestions from you kind folk.

I bought a fabia 2 1.2 Htp last month.  It was a private purchase, an 07 reg with 51k miles on the clock.

So far, I am very pleased - however, when the engine is warm I have noticed there is a regular problem with the revs sticking.  So for example if I am driving on the motorway and the engine is running at 4000rpm and if I lift off the gas and dip the clutch - the revs will stick at 4000rpm -instead of dropping.

Around town, the same thing can happen and when I lift off the throttle to change gear, the revs will stay at the same revs...even with my foot off the gas pedal.

The car needs a service, top priority - last serviced 18 months ago - but has done under 10 k miles since the last one.

I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance, appreciated.

Mike

Hi Mike

The HTP does have a habit of holding revs when you lift off for a few seconds not sure if it due to the flywheel used. Notice it when I use the same model and engine bit disconcerting at first. I did however have an issue where the throttle pedal had to be replaced on the same engine, model and year. When you came to a stop and put in neutral the revs would drop to 1500rpm and stick there unless you blipped the throttle and then they would go to normal idle about 900rpm.

Thanks

I do know what you mean. The older htp i had used to do that when it was cold (related to the choke i suppose) but once it warmed up it was fine.

My 2013 doesnt do it though.

Mine does this too, but only with the A/C on. Think my compressor is on the way out which may be contributing to it.

Thanks for the replies folk. I've got it booked in for a full service and diagnostic this week,. It's a weird glitch as today it hasn't done it all. And when it does do it, the revs stay at whatever rpm is indicated until you blip the gas pedal - only when the engine is warm and at higher revs. . Let's hope new plugs, a throttle housing clean and resetting the ecu works. Thanks again.

My old HTP did this too, as stated above it was only noticeable with the AC on. I had it checked out by the dealer a couple of times and no issues were found.

Air con regassed as of yesterday and working well. It is noticeably better with regards to the sticking throttle but still hovers for a second or two at 1100-1500 rpm when dipping the clutch. Must just be one of those things.

I have an issue with my Fabia 1.4 Diesel. The throttle sticks when the engine gets hot (races up to redline sometimes). Local Bosch garage has tried everything else and has diagnosed an ECU issue. A local Skoda dealer would charge £140 (1 hours labour) to diagnose, can anyone give any advice please ?

Thanking you in advance

I would think the pedal is more than likely. Reading the value blocks in the engine ECU with VCDS will tell you what signal the engine ECU is seeing from the pedal.

Just looking for an opinion.

Mine MK 1 Fabia does this too when warm. Revs stay where they were when driving and do not go down until I push acceleration pedal to the floor or slow down while in gear. They guy that services my car said I need a new "throttle". That is a direct translation from my native tongue.  That would cost around £400 for new part. I am not sure my Fabia is worth that much. What would you guys suggest to check first to make sure this can be done right and with fair pricing.

not sure if it will help, but when i had throttle issues (signal dropping so fabia-2 1.2 went into limp home mode), i removed the electronic throttle pedal and opened it up. I seem to recall it was easy to remove and open, and i then cleaned the contact tracks and "fingers" and made sure they were making good contact, put it all back together and its been good for a couple of years so far.

not sure if dirty contacts could give a throttle signal staying on, but might be worth a look?
