Diesel Smell

Featured Replies

Morning fellas,

I've got a strong diesel smell just above the drivers headlight.

Anybody know what the cylinder type component is above the headlight?

Fuel filter.

Fuel filter. .. if you can narrow a smell down to there. Open bonnet and use your eyes. Will get along way.

It should be bone dry not even damp. Have you had a service lately?

The ones coming out the top? I think it could be them! Seems to be ****ing out!

Will be spilt fuel or leaking. . Clean off with brake cleaner jist spray loads on it. It will dry after 30 seconds

There also seems to be what is oil coming from a little hole in the EGR. It's underneath the 'spaceship' type thing. I'm going to clean it all out tonight and see what the crack is.

Just wondering if any of you had the same before?

Yes, my 'spaceship' type thing also goes wrong a lot, it's not cracked though.

Seepage from the egr means it's either a bit blocked up or the diaphagm has split.  You can do a vac test to check the seal.  Otherwise, just clean it out.

same here my egr leaks abit of oil every now and then, I have scrapped out loads of thick oily deposits in the past. I would be concerned about the diesel leak and get that looked at quite soon fella.

or the diaphragm piston seal is shot   can't easily be replaced    DON'T block up those holes

Yes just been to the local dealer and got myself a fuel filter. I had the egr mapped out at darkside but there's still probably gunk and rubbish in the pipe so i'll give it a clean out tonight.

The little spring-clip that holds the feed-pipe into top of fuel filter must be sat correctly otherwise seepage will/can occur.

Okay cheers! I'll have a play after I've had some tea!

Right guys, I found the problem.

I started the car up and could see the diesel weeping from one of the rubbish spring clips that hold on the feed pipes.

I replaced these spring clips with jubilee clips and the leak has stopped.

Cheers for the info guys, much appreciated.
