Does any one know how to get the side light out of the light pod? My side light isnt working.

 

had a look at it earlyer but i was sturggleing! 

 

Is it a dealer job at all?

If you have drls I don't tthink there wired in

what age is your octavia? 

 

if you have day time running lights (ones in the bottom of the bumper which turn on when you start the car) they wont work as they are not wired up to work.

If your octavia doesnt have Drl's then to remove the sidelight bulb you need to remove the headlight,easy to do,undo the plastic nut on the back of the headlight then pull the handle on the side of the headlight & remove the headlight then un plug the wiring connector & remove the rubber cover & i used some long nose pliers to pull the sidelight bulb holder out then replace the bulb & re fit the headlight. There is a guide on here for removing the headlight. 

Cheers guys. I can get the light out to access the back of it but i have struggled to do the lamp!

What year & model is your car??  the facelifted vrs has sidelight bulbs fitted but they dont work as the drl acts as a sidelight instead. 

mines a mk2 - 2004

Turn the sidelight bulb holder until the lugs on the side are top & bottom of the light cluster.

Then use some long nose jets to squeeze the lugs in and pull firmly, but carefully, upwards to get the holder out of the light cluster.

It's a PITA and can go horribly wrong if you are heavy handed (like I was last week).

The only model where the DRL's have an effect on the sidelight bulb is the MkII facelift vRS.

 

All pre-facelift Octavia's and all facelift non-vRS Octavia's have the sidelights housed in the main headlight cluster.

 

The sidelight bulb holder is well known for being an absolute pain to remove, even when the headlight has been removed from the car.

Once out take it inside and get a pair of long-nose pliers and pull the bulb holder firmly but straight, no need to turn it. Be careful not to pull on the feed wires.
