New Fabia - A few interior quibbles

Featured Replies

Hi all. New to this forum. On Monday I picked up my new Fabia. Its the 1.2 12V that's currently on offer for £8995.

On picking it up I gave the exterior a good inspection and everything was fine, the interior I gave a quick once over as the salesman was in the car with me going over the controls, so didn't really have time to give it a thorough inspection. Anyway, keys handed over, handshake and away I go.

Over the last couple of days a few interior issues/imperfections have come to light, namely:

1) Lots of greasy marks on the black plastic parts of the interior, probably from the mechanics checking everything worked

2) The clear plastic cover for the instruments has several light scratches on it, probably due to it being wiped with a dirty cloth

3) The top of the instrument binnacle has a curved black textured strip running across it that runs towards the windscreen. I assume it should be perfectly rounded but it appears to be noticeably raised towards one side (the offside) as it nears the windscreen. Or is this normal?

Now I know to some of you these imperfections may seem trivial and I'm being too anal about them, but after all it is a brand new car. I have to go back to the dealer in a few days time to pick up the tax disc for the car, is it worth bringing these points up in your opinion? Whilst point 1 can be rectified fairly easily I would imagine 2 and 3 (if its a fault) would involve taking off part of the dash and be time consuming.

All opinions welcome, thanks.

Welcome

Youve paid the premium to have a new car, therefore, in my opinion, everything should be bang on perfect.

Its a shame you didnt notice these on the handover, however id certainly be guving them a phonecall asap to tell them.

Dont leave it too long, as theyre less and less likely to fix the scratches FOC.

These are signs of bad workmanship on their part in my view, so id defo be asking them to sort it

Your not being anal at all :).

Yes, dont leave it too long. At least you'll find out how good your dealer is at customer service.

It amazes me how these dealers think they can hand over a brand new car with these sort of problems and not give a b0ll0x, Where are the managers, are they not inspecting these new cars before handover and signing them off as perfect which it should be or is this under there pay scale. Defo bring the car back and tell them your not happy and want it sorted. Good luck.

I wouldn't leave it a few days - I'd be calling them straightaway and driving over at the first opportunity - the longer you leave it, the less likely they'll accept it was like that when they handed it over to you.

A brand new car should be just that, immaculate, and sat in by the delivery guys, the PDI technician, the salesperson, and then you, nobody else!

I got the same car as you in Denim Blue - the dealer had one in the compound and another parked up in a nearby shopping centre; made damn sure I checked the vin of the one in the compound to make sure I got that one - IMO, a car that has been parked in a dealer showroom or worse still a shopping centre and has had people's farty backsides in it, poking around with their chubby fingers, just isn't brand new, and should be sold as ex-demo.

Hope you get it sorted - the couple of plastic bits you described shouldn't cost the dealer too much to replace; in fact, if they tell Škoda that the car was defective when they took delivery of it, they could probably recoup the cost of those bits anyway. The greasy marks, well you'll just have to get your dash wipes out!

Good luck.

OK thanks all for your views, will be on the phone tomorrow morning, will let you know how I get on.

Quibbles that's a good word as I've just found a thin ring of rust on my right rear drum where the wheel meets the hub on my 3 week old Monte Carlo not fecking happy, will be phoning them up on Monday morning bright n early, not impressed doesn't really cover it...!!!! Fecking rust..!!!

Went to the dealer today. I sorted the greasy marks out myself, although there is one that wont come off grrr....   Anyway, they are going to replace the clear plastic instrument cover but they say the part on top of the instrument binnacle would be a whole dash replacement affair (as it's pretty much glued onto the dash) which they also indicated could do more harm then good due to the number of screws and other bits and pieces that will have to be undone and put back together, i.e. they cant be arsed with the hassle/expense.

I did check a few of their other Fabias for this fault and all except one seemed to be fine and even that one was less pronounced than mine. Trust me to get the wonkiest one. What are my options now? Do I just live with it?. Maybe ask for a free first service as way of compensation?

Just tell them to get on with putting everything right.

Regardless of how dififcult, if beyond them they can get a specialist in. At their expense.

Cost does not enter the equation, they will learn to be more careful from now on.

Too many screws etc,

ask them what their job is, is it Supplying new cars as they leave the Factory or not.

Checking all is correct before delivering and putting right if wrong from the factory.

& If they prepped them properly, the issues would not arise

Put your Experience to the Managing Director in writing and ask if he/she want to forward to Skoda UK

or you should yourself.

They need to refund you your expenses for travelilng in, and get you a courtesy car while yours is in getting sorted out.

I had a scratch on the dash of a brand new MiTo right in front of the passengers view, it was highlighted before I got it and in the end it was a dash replacement job, absolutely no problems afterwards, no rattles etc. They just put the scratched dash in to another car and sold it on which wasn't very professional.

Don't let them put you off if it's bugging you, it'll only bug you everyday you use the car for however many years you keep it.

If they won't help then contact Skoda customer services.

I agree 100% with the last two posts, bring the car back tell them to get it sorted and drive away in a courtesy car and as Austen says that ****y looking dash will p155 you off every time your in the car. So no more second guessing yourself Miller get the car to them asap ...aaaaaaAAAAHHHHHH these dealers take the p155. Im away to lie down in a dark room. :bandit:

Will get back on the phone to them tomorrow. Cant believe I was so soft with them today, just don't like confrontation tbh. You're right it really does annoy me every time I get in the car, has spoiled any enjoyment of owning it up to now! Think I will take a photo and mail it to the head office if I get no joy out of the dealer.

Incidentally how would you go about complaining? I was thinking of speaking direct to the after sales manager (who fobbed me off earlier today) and opening with something along the lines of "I've thought this through and think I'm in my rights to have this part replaced, if you disagree I will contact Skoda customer services and see what they have to say about it". Does that sound ok/direct enough?

Yeh man that sounds ok for a start, just keep calm at the start because you can always turn up the heat if you dont get what you want from him. Im away to work now. :drunk:  :drunk:

Different to the other opinions, but really I wouldn't be bothered about the dash, once you've had the car a couple of months it will be forgotten.

Well got on the phone to them this morning and to my complete surprise they didn't even try and put me off and agreed to fix it, strange considering they wanted nothing to do with it yesterday. Car booked in to be fixed next week. Lets hope they don't make an arse of it!

Maybe he reads the forum... :-)

Maybe Skoda should have a read from time to time......they'd get a right shock at some threads...lol

Skoda UK do indeed have a read on Briskoda from time to time, and so do Dealers,

Some even try to pretend they are just members & customers getting good service and big up a Dealership.

Anyway,  ALASDAIR STEWART BRAND DIRECTOR SKODA UK needs some more of his Senior Management Team reading this forum and seeing just the type of Terrible Customer Service Skoda UK can deliver, uninformed and not very professional.

& much the same with their Franchised Dealerships in the UK often.

Pathetic knowledge of Service & Reception Staff and Salespeople often.

Some Dealerships can be very good, & some at Skoda UK,

But how they the Great Customer Satisfaction Results from some of the UK Publishing Media Surveys is a mystery.

PS

Anyone with problems with a Dealership or Skoda UK or Skoda Worldwide should keep forwarding links from

Briskoda to them, and to Car Magazines and the likes.

The CEO of SKODA, Dr. WINFRIED VAHLAND wants SKODA to move Up Market,

So let him know to deal with the customers he has now in the right way.

Stop the 3 Monkeys, do recalls and notifications when the Company have cocked up

& stop treating Customers with a faulty Skoda like Mushrooms.

Well said dude !!!
