Retrofitting Cruise Control

Featured Replies

I've been searching this for quite some time, and the only REAL information I can find seems to be linked to a 'PDF' that got passed around the forums quite some time ago. I can't find a link for it online, nor a download link that's still active anywhere! :(

I've had fitted the cruise control stalk into the car, but they're currently struggling to get it coded in and functioning.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I'll be heading down there in an hour or so, if anyone has the mystery PDF it'd be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance! :)

What year is your car, ie pre or post FL? And what are they using to try and enable cruise?

What steering controller do you have fitted?

Not all controllers support CC.

Some (older) cars need a wire running from the controller to somewhere before it will work.

If you search this forum you will find the coding needed to make it work (assuming an appropriate steering controller is fitted already) and the info on the wire as well.

Here's the PDF on fitting CC stalk:

Here's some notes I picked from this forum:

Sorry for the delays in replying, I had to go to the shop sooner than I had expected earlier due to having a load of stuff I needed to do.

After having a chat with them, it all seems to have been installed okay, just drove the car for about 40 mins and all seems well (apart from CC not working.)

According to them, they fitted it all, but VAGCOM was basically saying that it was unable to detect (or communicate with) the new stalk to enable CC or something similar. They said they'd tried ringing Skoda who confirmed it was the right stalk for the vehicle, but they weren't of much further help.

Has anyone ever had this before? It was brand new and purchased from a very well known member on this forum, so I doubt it's a malfunction with the stalk.

It's pre-FL 2006, using the correct stalk only (seems to be all that is required for MKII) and VAGCOM software.

More useful than any of the ones I found, I have a VAGCOM lead, tempted to get the software and give it a shot myself.

Pretty sure my 2006 pre-FL MKII doesn't need the additional wire.

I did genuinely search the forum to no avail, despite reading 15-20 odd threads.

Second PDF is helpful though, thank you!

Thanks a lot, pretty sure I had that apart from 'coding', the little things that help eh!

Don't know how much use this is but when I've been searching for info on my non-working (but not retrofitted) cruise control there are a couple of different places need checking for the right coding, the one most people know about is either the steering column or convenience module, but then there is a lesser known setting somewhere in the engine ecu I think.

(Or that could be the other way round, sorry it's quite a while since I was reading up on the issue)

You're right you have to code the steering controller and the engine modules to get it to work. Provided your steering controller actually supports cruise - its tricky as some controllers come with different software versions, some which support cruise and some which don't even though the have the same part number.

I have advised what coding needs to be done

What is the issue that garage is having

Unable to code it or it doesn't work?

I have seen a post pre fl need the additional wire, my 2009 fl didn't need wire, I used my vag com to code it then think I went into steering to activate cc

You have the information needed to be able to do it so, as Eddie says, are you/the garage following the instructions and it's not working or or they not coding both modules correctly?

We don't have all the info so I suspect can't help you much further until we do.

Eddie has offered to help out with hopefully resolving this, I'm sure he'll be able to make more sense of it all to them!

Cheers guys, the help is much appreciated!

Eddie will sort it.

But don't forget to let us know what the outcome and solution is!

Just back from the shop with Eddie helping out.

Turned out that the VCDS didn't have a workshop number which didn't seem to let him program it in correctly. I'm sure Eddie will have more of an explanation if he comes to explain!

Great forum with some great members, cheers everyone (especially Ed!)
