porformance chip

Featured Replies

Hi my name is Campbell

I have got a Skoda monte carlo tech 1'6tdi I was thinking of putting a performance chip tuning box on my car do you think it will be ok

Many many many threads on here, general concencus is spend your money wisely once and get a proper remap !! There are a few remap specialists sponsored on this site which all have sections in the forums or do a wee search plenty of opinions out there.

Will you be able to handle the speed?

But seriously.... do your research first, a lot of these tuning boxes are a bit dodgy. Personally I'd investigate a professional remap rather than a box.

Thanks for feedback will do

Thank god not driving a vrs ! Why remap it at your age ? Its a cracking engine you'll only break it , has plenty of go for someone in their twilight years, I'd go remap rather than a chip

It'll be OK to put on but they can be pricey for what they are.

The only benefit you'll get over a good remap, which is probably the better option, is that you can remove it prior to any servicing or warranty work as it's a piggyback system that doesn't show up on the ECU.

AMD in Essex claim a boost to 135bhp and 20% better fuel economy on the 1.6, not cheap though. That is about as far away from Ayrshire as can be though, but others I'm sure do similar.

Tuning box or remap, go with someone you can find good recommendations of on the forum, it's one of the best indicators out there.

Also, I love your hat!

:)

I've heard a couple of good things about TMC boxes but they cost remap money anyway, also heard a good couple of reviews on the "race chip" (German company with a reasonable presence on the net) which only costs £100 ish for the standard 131bhp box and £180 for 135bhp and more torque.

It's tempting..

Unfortunately the better tuning boxes are actually pretty hard to fit and remove as many of the sensors they plug into are effectively under the car and often need the undertray stripped off, so you need to a bit smarter.

On my last Touareg I had the MTM tuning box fitted and when it was spotted by the dealer I simply pointed to the sticker on it saying "Property of AVIVA Insurance" and "This is not a tuning device". No further questions were asked. :)

Hi Campbell Frame,

We are a specialist tuning company and cover all methods of tuning.  We provide remaps and digital; single and multi channel tuning box systems.

If you would like to have a general chat regarding the tuning options available to you for your Skoda Monte Carlo Tech 1.6 TDI, you are very welcome to contact our technical team on 01245 924 401.

However, please be assured that a re-map or a tuning box from a reputable tuner will not have any detrimental impact on your vehicle and will work within the manufacturers tolerance on engine components.

In addition, a tuning box is traceless and will leave no history on your ECU.  Fitting may vary slightly depending on the age of your vehicle and the system you choose.  However, tuning boxes can usually be fitted in a matter of minutes and are dispatched with comprehensive instructions and full technical telephone support.

Kind regards,

Steve

WOW!

Just wanted to share experience with a "piggy back" plug in chip. Not good at all with cars with DPF in MY experience. Even with good mileage I had issues due to chipping a 120hp 1.6 diesel to 143hp.

I think they have moved on recently. The worst that will happen on the CR engines is that you use a lot more fuel cleaning up the DPF. I had no issues with my MTM box on the Touareg, and that gave a serious increase in performance (over 20% in power and torque).

You little liar !!!

No, I never said it wasn't a tuning box. The dealer inferred that from the stickers. If he'd asked me, I'd have told him the truth.

Campell,

we met at Girvan when you had not long got the Monte,      is it a 105 PS one ?
