EML and rough idle and acc

Featured Replies

Hey all

Just took my vrs for a quick spin and i hit a flat spot in 2nd then the eml light came on. Now the engine is shaking on idle and it shakes the car under acceleration. any ideas? Gonna put my mates code reader on it within the hour to see what comes up.

Diagnostic needed. There will be a fault code logged in the ECU.

Could be any number of things but coilpack failure is very common on mk1 VRS's.  VAG has a coil pack replacement campaign running. If your coilpacks are covered your Skoda dealer will replace them free of charge.

Missfire cylinder 4. What do u reckon guys? My mate told me the coilpacks break on them alot. Reckon it could be that?

Have you had the recall done ?

No idea. Only got the car yestetday lol. How can I find out?

Best bet is to give skoda a call with your vin and number plate. More than likely this as your code is giving one of the symptoms.

Tell them your trying to find out if your car has been in for the coil pack recall.

I had mine done under recall and since then fault code comes up random missfire on a few cylinders.....

I'm ringing them in the morning as I think the coil packs they put in are dud.!

Could be your coilpack wiring harness failing.

Skoda call it coil replacement campaign 28F7. It's not actually a recall.

Where can I buy one of these Paul? I don't wanna change the whole engine harness! :-o

Swap number 4 coil to a different cylinder and see if the misfire moves with it.

Thats a good call. Does the harness fail often?

The harness is subject to a lot of heat & can become brittle causing failure of the wiring & connectors..

Ah right fair enough. Where can u get this harness from if it is that and how much? Gonna swap the pack over to another cylinder tomorrow.

Just looked through the service history (got every receipt from 2003) and my car has never had a coilpack change and not found any paper work on this recall. How long do these coilpacks tend to last. My cars done 142k n its saying they have never been changed lol.

Ok good news. Swapped it from cylinder 4 to 2 and its came up missfire on cylinder 2. Called up my local skoda garage and its in for its recall on the coil packs. Glad its going to be sorted.

Nice one :)

Just got my car back from skoda with 4 new coilpacks :)

Iv got a new problem now tho, i noticed on my way 2 skoda my exhaust rattled every now and then but thought its probably cuz its misfiring. I started it up at skoda and the exhaust was rattling like anything. As i start to drove it the sound went. I just got the car home and it seems to be doing it under light throttle  and when pulling off. Could this be because i drove it while it was misfiring and its broke something? sounds to me as tho its under the front seats. I shook the exhaust around from the back and it was silent. Letting it cool down now and ill start it up to see if its doing it again from cold. Whats your thoughts on this guys?

Exhaust heatshield may have come adrift.

Did they change you coilpacks for you then?

Yh they wouldn't let me do it myself. It doesn't seem to have lost power so could be. Does this happen often?

After a quick look theres a bit underneath my exhaust facing the floor that is rattling anyone know if I can just remove it as I dont see the point in it.
