Preemptive Battery Swap?

Featured Replies

Am I on borrowed time? OEM battery in an 07 plate petrol VRS with 95k on it.

Search facility tells me it is 2 years past the typical demise point. No problems at the moment, but it will be sat in an airport car park for the best part of 3 weeks in the not too distant future.

If you're not having any problems or even any signs of problems then I wouldn't worry.

Ours is a 57 plate 32,000 miles and on the original battery (diesel used for shorter trips) and it's very healthy still.

If you're worried about it being sat for three weeks, look into buying a solar powered trickle charger from Maplins. Sits on the dash and keeps the battery topped up for free. It just plugs into the 12V power socket.

you will probably be fine.

If you have a charger i'd get the car on charge over night for a few nights before you leave it so the battery is as full as its going to get (the alternator will not charge it to 100%)

Might be an idea to leave a charger in the car or even a jump pack if you're that worried when you do leave the car. Most airport car parks can help you out in flat battery situations though, I expect they see loads every day

Mine lasted 34 months...Just in Warranty...Got it replaced free

Good call. Saved my dad's battery from going flat while he was ill and only doing 2,000 miles a year!

I often leave a car for a month or two, I always disconnect the battery, never had a problem. The exception is the Mrs old Mazda Eunos, when the radio and lights are off there is zero drain on the battery, sometimes older and simpler is better!!

I had a similar dilemma. Car getting older (same age) and going on holiday from Newcastle so a bit of a trek for us.

Battery was acting fine.

I bought cheap breakdown cover insted since it was cheaper than the battery.
