Servicing cost

Featured Replies

Hi all, my vRS is due a service so I'm looking at oil change, oil filter, pollen filter and plugs.

Having come from Alfa ownership where anything under £400 for a service is reasonable, what sort of cost am I looking at from a garage?

Also read it's worth dropping the sump and getting the oil pickup done at the same time, is that a big job?

Any advice welcome before I ring round!

I buy all my VAG service items from TPS, & get my trusted garage to do the service. They did my Seat Ibiza FR yesterday, cost a total of £62 in parts & oil plus £60 labour. Seat quoted me £169 + VAT.

Really worth doing the oil pck up. Parts are cheap & you should only be looking at an hour of labour. Easy job on transverse VAG 1.8T's, but an absolute pain on longitudinal engines, Audi A4, Passat etc as the subframe has to come out to remove the sump.

Why does the pickup need changing?

Very common for the pick up strainer to get sludged up, causing loss of oil pressure, oil starvation & often leading to terminal engine & turbo failure.

How often should it be changed? Dont think mines ever been done. Wheres best to get the part from?

If you have no record of it being changed I'd do it as good preventative maintenance. Cars that haven't been serviced correctly at the right intervals or have been parked up for a long time seem to suffer most from blocked oil pick up.

Parts are cheap from any VAG main dealer or TPS.

According to VAGCAT the oil pick up strainer part number is 06A115251. I think VAG call it a suction line.

Pickup, Gasket, Sump bolt, Sealant - £35

Oil - £42.99

Filter - £6

Pollen filter £12 (I think it was)
