Upgrading the headunit to double din help

Featured Replies

Hi. New to the forum. If I want to change the single din headunit to a double din headunit what do I need in order to make it fit etc

At the very least you'll need the radio mounting which is part no 5J1858089BM48 (Silver Grey) or 5J1858089B4K1 (Ivory) or 5J1858089B47H (Onyx).  If you're fitting a Skoda radio then you'll also need the radio trim which is 5J0858069A9B9 (Satin Black) or 5J0858069BLI1 (Graphite Metallic [Grey]). Cost looks to be around £25 for the radio mounting and £8 for the surround trim.  Not having seen the single DIN radio I've no idea what wiring adaptors might be needed.

Ive never seen a single din on a fabia mk2???

Which fabia mk2 has a single din?

Isnt the swing the entry level unit? Thats a double din

Yep I agree there. Blanking plates look like a bodge. Although if memory serves.. I have both surrounds and a shelf to go in place of blanking plate. Will have a look when I gt home tomorrow if your interested in buying?

I edited that mate.

I read it wrong. Thought he said double to single.

But somehow he means single to double? Haha

Ah ok lol. That makes my point invalid then haha. At least we both misread ;)

Just to clear things up I want to remove the standard skoda fabia headunit and fit a double din aftermarket with a screen I.e alpine or pioneer.

The facelift Fabia MK2 uses canbus signalling to control the power status of the factory headunit. At the very least you'll need an appropriate aftermarket facia adapter, a quadlock to ISO converter and also run a switched 12V supply direct from the fusebox as there is no switched supply behind the factory unit. Also required will be a radio aerial booster/adapter because no aftermarket units are capable of powering the factory booster in the base of the antenna.

Other parts may well be required, as I am not aware of anyone who has fitted an aftermarket system. Most tend to stick with factory systems and replace the basic headunit with a Amundsen or Columbus navigation units. The factory options are a straight swap + add GPS aerial.

Now its making more sense :).

Then i realised. The title says something completely different to the opening post, which also says something completely different to what the OP wants.

Now i feel less silly for misreading haha
