Dashboard clock stays on when ignition off

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My dashboard clock resets back to 0:00 everytime the car is started. So I looked at the fuse panel and have found that a fuse wasn't correctly fitted, so I pushed it in and now with that fuse fitted correctly, the dashboard clock doesn't loose memory after each car start (but) it now stays permanently on along with the mileage counter. Even when the car is locked. I am afraid this may drain the battery?

If it helps, the car alarm doesn't work either and also the car radio keeps loosing it's memory aswell.

The fuse that I replaced was F11 and F15 both the instrument cluster?

Any help would be appreciated.

Skoda Octavia 1.8 20V  estate 1999 automatic.

They are meant to remain on, LCD uses virtually no power so drain will not be an issue.

They were going off and resetting before because they lost all power because of the fuse.

Ah okay thanks, I didn't know that. Any idea what fuse it is for the radio? I replaced "F42" for "Audio System" but the radio still resets itself. I was going off the fuse panel layout here:

is it a factory radio or one you have fitted yourself.

It's one I fitted myself as the old owner took the factory radio out of it before he sold it to me, I tried it in another car I had and it doesn't lose memory. Could it be shorting somewhere?

Swap the red and yellow wires over( ignition controlled and permanent supply). There is normally bullet type connectors on these wires to allow you to swap them over.

As stated above by Kenny R.

Also often people will remove fuse 15 as there is an intermittent Skoda Octavia dashboard regulator failure that can be overcome by removing fuse 15. Only problem is it resets the trip & clock everytime the ignition is cycled. Will be interesting to see if you start getting gauge failure now fuse 15 is back in.

F15 fuse is back in and causing the gauge to die within 10-15 seconds of driving, then come back to life for 3 minutes and then die again.

Damn.

I guess only option is to take F15 out and leave it out?
