Note to self: Read Properly

 

Oh the irony.

A work colleague recently fell for this with his passport renewal. He's kicking himself.

If a portal opens to a fraudulent site when you're on an official one, then there are only 2 options.

Either the government site has been hacked, or your browser has been hijacked by malware/virus

It's scary that there are people thick enough to fall for that driving around in cars!

Not everybody is that tech savvy though. I could take one glace at the url alone and see it wasn't the proper site, but some people won't have a clue. There are still people out there, in 2014, that take pictures of their computer screen with a camera instead of pressing the print screen button   

. 

While a sympathise due to the sites being deliberately made to draw people in and trick them... people only have themselves to blame.

 

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago buying a German environment zone disc. I found myself on a website charging upwards of £40 to get one for you... if you go direct to Berlin city website you can buy one online for 8 euros.

 

You just have to use your common sense, take proper note of what site your on and read everything on the site.

Isn't there a similar scam with passports? I can't believe the government would allow something so obviously misleading to continue. I know people should look before they leap but watching my parents blithering around the internet there's plenty of folk out there who would naturally assume that it was a standard charge they had to pay. 

Go to gov.uk, then it's 3 clicks from there. Easy and no chance of failure. You have to be stupid to fall for anything like that and to be honest you deserve to pay £40 for the privilege.

Go on your phone or PC and switch off your brain, and see what it feels like.
