Introducing myself to the Skoda family

Featured Replies

Here in New Zealand the introduction of Skoda has crept in under the radar. Around here I am regarded as a sort of freak. I have just taken delivery of a Skoda Octavia Mark 3 Station Wagon.

I have opted for the 1.8L TSI engine in what is referred to here as an "Elegance Trim". Although it is probably less elegant than what you would get in the UK. I have also broken with the trend and opted for the Ivory/beige interior. I have to say, it looks better than I expected. The part leather, part fabric upholstery is fabulous and very comfortable. I ordered the car in October. I understand it was built in December, but it has taken a good 2 and a half months to get here. To say the least, I am pleased the wait is over.

Right now I am just beginning to get used to the ride.

I hope to hear from Skoda drivers in this part of the world.

Welcome from a fellow 1.8TSI owner. :)

Hi. I'm in Auckland and have a new Octavia RS. Loving it!

Hi all I lived in Tauranga for a couple of years fabulous place, sorry to leave, but hay oh back in the uk now, I had a Octavia before I moved to NZ but noticed they seemed more expensive in NZ, than in the UK,I went to buy one from the dealer in Tauranga but in the end bought a Japanese import Honda as they were cheaper than skodas but did keep banging on to my Kiwi mates what a good car Skodas are.

I've now got a new occy 3 and I must say I've never had a better car,and I've had few cars since I started driving in 1970,

Anyway great to talk to fellow Skoda owners, I'm sure you won't regret getting a skoda

Welcome to Briskoda, nice car, great engine.

Nice to see some Kiwis here! I'm also in Auckland and have had my new vRS wagon for three days. Loving it!

@philiph, Our cars must have arrived on the same ship. How long did you wait from order to delivery? I waited 5 months.

@Benny28, I did a lot of comparison between here and other countries. At times it is difficult as due to different trims we never compare like with like. However on the whole, the price of the Octavia is about the same as the UK (considering exchange rates). They actually dropped the price for the 2013 model, but I suspect that some features were dropped from the trims and were additional extras. In comparison to comparable Asian cars, I felt Skoda offered the best value for money. However for some reason, they are much cheaper in Australia which leads me to conclude that someone here is taking the micky. Remember that the only tax here is 15% GST. No additional taxes for the privilege of buying a vehicle. Sure there are shipping costs but it should be no worse than Australia.  Anyway, rant over.
