DVLA delay my car

Featured Replies

My October ordered vRS arrived at the dealerships 10 days ago. Documents sent to DVLA for registration transfer with the understanding from the DVLA that once the registration had been transferred I could have the car, even before paperwork was processed. Was told that it would be done by Wednesday. Email from dealership this morning saying that due to it being March and the DVLA having lots of work the plate had not yet been transferred.

The free seven day insurance runs out today - needed to be insured to transfer the registration.

So, my car is sat at the dealerships, now uninsured and unable to drive.

This feeling is worse than when I was waiting for a build week or when the car was sat in Emden for two weeks.

No consolation but when I picked up my car from the dealer it had the registered plates. I had to insure it with these plates. I then went about putting on my private plate and then informing my insurer when this was approved by DVLA. At least I got to drive it whilst waiting for DVLA. You will enjoy it more when you finally get the green light to drive it.

Yeah, I know I could (should) have put the plates on retention and swapped at my leisure when driving the car. The frustrating part is that the DVLA said it wouldn't be a problem and would take three days to sort - the V55 sent to the DVLA, now there is nothing I or the dealership can do but wait.

Was far easier when local offices were available for simple tasks like this. Moving everything to one office is bad news. I have just heard that they are to close all local offices in Northern Ireland too, meaning even more registration/taxing delays for everyone.

Take the car on a 14 plate for a bit and transfer later; not saying the dealers/DVLA shouldnt be able to get organised and it is a farce but if youre desperate to have the car why worry about the personal plate short term.

You think thats bad.....my old man bought an M135i a short while back and the dealership transferred his plate to a completely different car....there he was rolling about in his with his private plate...all the while it had been registered to another almost identical car in dealer stock. Was only when the V5 came though with completely the wrong colour and chassis number did he realise....had the car a few weeks at that point!

Dealers naturally v apologetic, put it on its original plate and sorted it....got a decent boot mat out of it too but god knows what would have happened if he'd had a prang!

V55 already at dvla, so unable to register on a normal 14 plate. Getting over the disappointment by adding more miles on the px.

We once had a company van and it was only when there was a recall three months after we had it, that it was noticed that the plates were wrong - numbers in wrong order

Bumholes thats annoying; never mind it'll soon be on your driveway!

had same problem , took 3 weeks to sort out , then you may have the tax problem

tax problem? What tax problem?

Couldn't the dealer get the vin whilst it was on the boat or dockside and register then getting the current car put back onto it's plate?

Latest update.

DVLA have no records of my documents arriving, even though they were sent by recorded delivery!

So replacement V5 being produced for my current car, dealership checking if they can register new one on a 14 plate.

If they can put a 14 on it, should be picking up tomorrow! Two weeks after it arrived at the dealership.

  • Dealership checked possibility of registering on a 'standard' 14 plate 18/03/14

Sweet as a nut, took for a small drive and saw two other vRS hatchbacks on the road, but happy to be part of the growing group of O3 vRS owners. Just need to wait for the V5s to arrive so I can change my registration across, and fair play to the dealership who are happy to wait for the documentation to come back for what is now their car.
