OCTAVIA MK3 STEERING

Featured Replies

Hi

Just replaced my mk2 Octavia with a new Mk3 Combi Tdi and I am thinking I liked the steering more on

The Mk2.

The new one does not have as much feel to it and also seems to transmit Some Vibrations from the road and engine direct to the steering wheel.

Does any one else feel that with there Tdi Engined car,

Cheers.

Nope, I came from a mkII vRS CR and feel wise it's no difference, certainly no vibrations from the engine, I do like the new variable ratio rack though.

It might be something to do with mine being the 4x4 then or the different tyres I had fitted from new

Anyone else got the 4x4 Combi if you have what do you think of the steering do you feel any vibrations through the steering wheel while driving.

?

Cheers.

Steering is possibly one of the weaker points on the MK3 I think though I now have a regular 2.0 TDi 150 Elegance combi in place of a MK2 vRS TDI Blackline combi.

Steering feel is rather artificial, though likely down to going from hydraulic to electric power steering (pretty sure thats the case). Feels a little vague at lower speeds and also have noticed the tiniest amount of deadness around dead-ahead, improves at speed though.

Steering is too light in normal mode so tend to leave mine in sport, not sure id want a regular car without drive mode selection as a result (good job nearly every UK model comes with it).

I actually havent driven a MK3 vRS as wasnt intent on buying another this time around but understand the variable rack is very goid and probably an improvement over the normal car and MK2 vRS setup.

The steering in my mkII FL vRS was electric too.

Ah fair shout, thought it was mechanical my mistake

Hi

What does yours feel like through the steering wheel ? ,I am trying to find out if this is a design fault with this new Car as I have never

Had any Vibrations at all on my MK2 Octavia Tdi that I just swopped for this.

I would of thought all the money it cost to make this new Design that it would of been a big improvement not a backwards step regarding NVH .

Pete

No vibrations through my steering at all.

It is very like the feeling when doing DPF regen. Part of me thinks its not a steering issue as gearstick has same feeling.

I can't feel anything on mine when it's doing a regen....

I can't feel anything on mine when it's doing a regen....

How do you know a regen is being done?

The feeling I have....similiar feeling when car at 800rpm, rev it, theres a vibration around 1000rpm. Maybe that why I notice it during a regen as it occurs at 1000rpm when idle.

How do you know a regen is being done?

Rickover rises to 1k rpm and stop/start won't work. I can't feel anything different though

At idle 800rpm if you hold steering while blip throttle OR let revs slowly rise to say 2000rpm would you notice more vibration at 1000rpm compared to other stages of rev band?

Is yours petrol or diesel? Mine is vRS Diesel

Mines a vRS diesel, I don't get any vibrations from the engine through the steering at any revs.

my new mk3 diesel 1.6 105bhp dsg start to transmit vibrations to the steering wheel at 4000kms.. now I have 6500kms and I also feel a litle bit on the pedal.  I feel this vibration even when the car is stopped and not moving, so is not a wheel balance problem.
