Locking button central console.

Featured Replies

My lock/unlock button has stopped working and become very temperamental and very rarely works.

Does any one know the part no. for this or best place to purchase a new one.

Thanks.

Why did you replace yours? Do you reckon it is my switch at fault..are they known as common fault?

Thanks for the link...bit pricey for a switch but if it'll fix the problem then I'll pay it.

Try contact cleaner too this works for a while.

Does this just pop out? or do you have to dismantle the whole console to get at it? mine is very sketchy and is beginning to irritate me!!!

With mine ( not sure on the correct method ) but works fine for me.

I press down on the button really hard in the middle and evenly all on it until I push it through to the bottom.

Then I pull my gearbox gaiter up ( it's not the leather that comes up ) infact it's the square plastic box that comes off attached to the leather.

Then feed your hand through the gearbox and unplug the switch ( fairly easy ) then you should have the switch in your hand.

To take the switch apart use a small flat head screwdriver and prize of the for small clips and it'll come apart completely.

Top plastic - rubber middle - bottom circuit board.

Hope this helps and it's no way near as complicated and I've made out lol. It takes about 5mins! The only slightly fiddley bit is unplugging the switch.

Good luck!

The hardest part is pushing this switch back in. I tried and almost lifted the centre console off its mountings. Got another bloke to give it a go and he couldn't do it either. So then my mrs gets in the car and says "what's that hole for?" I tell her how its impossible to get the switch back in...with that 2 seconds latter she pops the switch back in!

She looks like a stick and me and the other bloke are 14+ stone and 6ft+

Ah **** I forget to give you instructions on how to refit it.

Glad you've done it now. +1 for the females ey ;)

Quick guide to anyone wondering is feed the switch through the gearbox and reconnect it. One hand through the small hole and the other through the gearbox space.

Then pull the switch up in the gap whilst using a flat head screwdriver to assist you. Use the screw driver as a lever type and it should fit back in no prob.

cheers guys (and girls) for the info, ill have a look at doing this at the weekend if i get a chance...

Hoping someone can help, I know it's an old thread. Is this process the same on DSG cars? I'm trying to lift the plastic surrounding the gear lever off and I can only get the end closest to the dashboard to lift up, the other end appears to be attached, I'm not getting much movement out of it?
