Exhaust Control System LIGHT VRS - JUST GOT IT HOME

Featured Replies

Could it have been G520, Intake Air Temperature Sender. ?

(G 583 is the Intake Manifold Pressure Sender)

Has the car now had the latest ECU Update applied?

You bought it from the same dealer I did. And mine had issues....dont know if thats really relevant. But thats 4now I know off that have been sold by them and later had things going wrong.

Think it was the G520 sensor goneoffSKi. It has had the latest ECU aparently, but they don't seem to transparent in what it has had done and what it hasn't.

Th3Grinch, did you buy it from spondon Gordon lamb? Bit worrying to say the least :/ my dad and his partner have had new cars off them with no real troubles but service and maintainable they don't seem to keyed up on :/

Yeah it was the spondon one. To be honest I nearly walked out after the service I got but id travelled on the train for 3hours so didnt want to leave without the car. They did give me a bit of a deal. But as soon as the pin number was accepted I was just an inconvenience I think. Took them 5weeks to update the system that the car had been bought. SKODAUK wouldnt even talk to me about what I wanted as I wasnt the owner of the car. Luckily I use a different dealer closer to home who have been faultless really.

They are going to have to do a bit better than trial and error replacing sensors.

You might be better seeing about using another Skoda Dealership Workshop.

Have the 4 Spark Plugs been removed and new ones fitted.

& have they said that 'they have installed the latest ECU Update', to the Cars ECU.

or just saying it has it?

'Apparently', is not really good enough.

Th3Grinch, I've had the same problem with skoda uk, still havnt updated the system even after asking Gordon lamb to do it again! Mine is a 60 plate so is only under Gordon lamb warranty I think...maybe someone could tell me considering I've bought a used car from a skoda dealership...who is the warranty under!

GoneoffSKi, I agree, they are going to have to do better. I am going to go in and demand some answers this time. Regarding the ECU, spark plugs ect.

If it's not fixed this time I will be complaining bitterly to skoda uk.

Don't know if the two girls were on service reception when you went Th3Grinch, but they are

Clueless. One rang me once and left a voicemail to call back using my name and I rang back and she Completly denied calling :| Fed up of being me nicey, hate to be a **** but time to be taken seriously one feels!

Skoda UK have agreed today to replace an engine in another car out of the Original 3 year Warranty.

They know the issues existed on many engines 2010-2012.

Extended Warranty Companies know that Skoda knew.

Your Extended Warranty might be with Car Care Plan.

You need to ask the Dealership,

Is it a Skoda Approved Used Car with a 12 month Warranty?

Hi Guys,

I picked my 2011 (60 plate) vrs with 39,000 miles on the clock up from Skoda garage this morning. (it has 12 month warranty so not too worried if there is something wrong).   I have given it a fair thrashing most of the day and driven it up to 120mph, as you do with such a performance car on your first run.

Not sure if you have a vrs or if you drive it as it's intended but i have received advice off skoda uk and Gordon lamb who both said, give it a good thrashing up the motorway to see if it clears the light fault. Obviously that didn't do it. But why buy a car that can do such performance and not try it out, it was on a private road and I certainly don't drive it like that everyday, I get 42mpg from it so clearly don't. Not sure what everyone's opinion is and thanks for yours. But this is an advice forum, I try to update people so people with the same fault know what to look out for. I don't need a lecture telling me how I should drive!

Didnt actually have to deal with the service dept. Only sales, but they werent good. If your warranty is with the same company as mine. Good luck. As they are completely blooming useless. Had a right palava with them trying to get them to do their job. When you ring skoda I would ask who the warranty is through. Mine has now been transferred back to skoda warranty as I kicked off 'big time' (needed engine replacement)

Thanks for the advice goneoffSKi, I belive it is a skoda approved used warranty of 12 months. Does this entitle me to have the car serviced or seen to at any uk skoda garage? Or is the warranty only supported by the garage that sold me the car?

Warranty can be used at any skoda garage. But be wary if its the same as mine was.

Ok thanks Th3Grinch, I will ask lamb's tommorow. Made a list of things to give to them and ask for some answers.

Got it in to Gordon Lamb on Tuesday and on the way home thought I would contact gordon lamb hq (as I received a letter asking if I was satisfied with my purchase) and made a complaint regarding the reoccurring fault. 2 minutes later the head of service rang me back and after about 10 minutes, I asked him why the turbo over boost code was coming up on the diagnostics but it was all being blamed on faulty sensors... Long story short, they said they were never aware of this fault code (*******s because I have them the intial rac report that said this) and would check the turbo.

Rang back yesturday and said they had found that one of the turbo air pipes had a crack in it so would be replacing that. And that they would replace (after much argument) my rear skoda badge which has white worm. Now they are trying to recreate parking sensor fault which admittedly is not too frequent (that makes the parking sensors bleep on full as soon as reverse is engaged, and recreate a huge creak that sounds like the rear end is splitting off the car, guessing that's due to a suspension component.

George

Good,

but they replaced a sensor, and say they did not know about the fault codes from the RAC man.  Strange.

& the Rear Badge,   why would they argue over that,?

it is not like they have not had to replace plenty for a couple of years now before cars went out of Warranty.

It is a given, and Skoda are not going to refuse to pay for that being done.

(just check no little chip at the pained edge of the recess , made by who ever changed the Badge.)

PS,  'Head of Service',

is that a Senior Receptionist from the Service Desk, or a Workshop Manager or Master Technician.

Phone calls from 'Service Personnel' with no Mechanical Knowledge is like a PC World Customer Service desk person telling you what they have done to repair your computer.

  • Author

Thanks George,

And yes VERY strange, they should have checked the turbo components first time as they will have 100% seen the fault codes when checking diagnostics.

With regard to the skoda badge, I asked them to replace it before I even picked the car up but they didn't. They said that because the car is only covered by aproved used skoda uk warranty, it only covers mechanics and does not extend the 3 years corrosion warranty. To which I said I don't care if you have to pay for it yourself, it's a known fault and I asked them to replace it before money was transferred so you can replace it.

  • Author

It was either the workshop manager or master technician. Wasn't a receptionist from the service desk and he certainly knew what he was talking about.

Hopefully I have got there in the end. Fingers crossed anyway, if the light comes on again I will go through the roof!!

The part for the turbo pipe is on back order so will not arrive with them until next week. Hope in the mean time they manage to recreate and fix the parking sensor fault and also the nasty creak to the rear side near of the car.

So the car has been with Gordon Lamb for a week now and they are 'still waiting' for the turbo pipe :| god only knows where it's coming from, they said the main factory but I'd have thought a part could have been shipped a lot faster than that! They said they 'expect and hope' it will arrive this week. In the mean time I've put about 400 miles on their 14 plate fabia demobstrator they lent me.

On top of this they will not be able to test or try and fix either the suspension or parking sensors until the turbo pipe is fixed as, obviously, the car is in bits. So looks like at least another week of waiting!

They have almost had it longer than I have since I bought it.

It's instances like this where I really think a good will compensation should be offered. I bought the car for just over £8000 on the 14th of March and it's been in I think 5 times now. I know a part takes time to arrive so I can't really complain abou that but the whole experience has been a bit of a nightmare.

I want my green machine back! Lol

I'd be tempted to call it "not merchantable quality" and ask for a full refund!

  • Author

I know that's an option Phil but a) I love the car and would be very upset to loose it and B) I'm not sure they would go with that as they have supposedly identified the fault.

  • Author

Just rang me back. They have replaced the turbo pipe which has 'apparently' (excuse my reservations) cleared the fault. But whilst doing the repair have found some problems with the ECU and have sent a request to Skoda warranty to replace the ECU, should find out this afternoon whether this or a repair is approved.

Further, the cars suspension was passed and everything checked - nothing wrong so will have to live with the creak to the back end, and they could not recreate the fault with the parking sensors so hopefully it's ok. Worse comes to worse they will get worse and I will be able to show them the fault at yearly service.
