I overtook an Aston Martin yesterday

First one I've seen:

and a rather unremarkable little ugly duckling if you ask me.

And talking of ugly ducklings I then caught up with one of these - also a first for me:

If I was to search for a compliment, it might look marginally better than the Vauxhall Disappointment Antara.  Marginally.

You overtook a 1.3 Toyota iQ that has had some Customisation from Aston Martin and called a Cygnet.

A pretty remarkable car if you go try one. Front passenger space about the same or better than your own cars.

Turning circle like nothing else you might drive in the way of a passenger car.

From the rear just a Toyota iQ really.

soon to be discontinued sadly.

I've only ever seen one...

Didn't they come free with some of the more expensive Astons?

Maybe to those and such as those, to sweeten the Deal, while new cars on order.

but generally other than Dealer Registered and sold Used.

They were Bought for real money by some customers, Shopping runabout, for the Nanny and the like.

Not that many used available in the UK.

But still used bargains around now of them, if you want a lovely interior.

But you can get a Nice Leather Interior in a Brand New or used iQ for similar or less.

1.0 lt, 1Q or iQ2 Multidrive is More Fun than the 1.3 iQ3, IMO.

I believe the idea was to bring down the average CO2 rating for Astons for tax purposes.

One of th women at work is married to a Toyota saleas manager. She doesn't often speak highly of Toyotas despite driving them most days but she loved the iQ. But it just doesn't seem to have taken off as a car.

It's funny when you go round the Aston factory and see lines of Toyota's stacked up ready to be butchered customised into Astons'.

IIRC they were in the region of about £20k +

They were only offered to people who already had an Aston Martin and were to bring down the CO2 Emission average for the company. Even if they didn't sell any, because they were available, the company didn't get extortionately taxed from the E.U.

Everyone knows what it is and why its there, even the E.U. know whats happening, but it works. Its ugly enough to not appeal to anyone, yet stylish enough to not taint the name of Aston Martin. Genius really.

£30k+ new I believe... plus customisation options.

AM have some pre owned ones for sale:

Pick one up for £18k

Bargain, but no thanks. :D

I thought you meant the new cost when you mentioned seeing them at the factory.  My bad.

There's a £34k LHD one on Autotrader  :o :

Personal opinion George, but a good turning circle and some whistles and bells from Aston won't make me think it's any the more remarkable.

I looked at Toyota about three years ago.  Really didn't like the Prius that I'd gone to test drive, but was quite taken with the IQ.  I'm sure there was a laudable reason for the Cygnet somewhere (notwithstanding comments already made here), but as a car, it's lost on me.

Gaz

Lost on most.

Probably more on those that can not afford to go in and order a new full size Aston Martin.

But as i remember reading,

a little trinket of a Cygnet in the Car Port or Driveway, is nothing to someone that spends more than £31,000

on a Watch or Handbag.

Lots of very Expensive Fiat Abarth 500's around, £30,000 - £40,000 some quite nippy.

So IMO i would rather have one of those than a Cygnet,

but not bought from my money.
