I've done something very silly. I've lost the key for my car. I do hope it turns up, but i'm coming to the realisation it may not.

 

I have the V5C Etc for the car.

 

Can I contact the dealers and will they be able to reproduce me a key ? (I.E. Do they hold a master database of all the keys that were sent with the orignal cars.)

 

Time isn't an issue, as I have other transport till I get one.

Skoda Octavia VRS - Factory fitted alarm etc. Nothing been added.

Call a locksmith. When oh lost her picasso key we called and next day he had a cut key which he programmed on the drive.

Did cost £140 though.

As above, any good auto locksmith will be able to do it, and will probably have the key in stock.

£165 for a new Fob and a spare key.

Not cheap to replace key & fob, but probably Skoda could help by telling them vehicle registration and Vehicle Identity Number. (VIN)

(VIN) found on MOT certificate or vehicle registration log book.

Check your insurance as well because quite a few these days actually cover key loss with a small excess much like windscreen repair - often hidden in the small print though!

Got a local Auto Locksmith to do it - He couldn't get the Remote Central Locking done though. Only a key (Starts and works fine)

 

So now I've got a bit of time to replace the Original Remote CL key fob. More money :(

how much did he charge you & did he say why he couldn't get the remote locking done?

Sorting my renewal today this was added on. Not sure if an excess applies but nice to know it's covered.

He just said the car wouldn't "Take" they key, He was trying to use a 3 button fob, when previously mine was a 2 button. He did say this was the reason. £140 for 2 standard keys. :(

 

I'd gladly take you up on that offer! I didn't realise how much of a pain having to unlock the drivers to get into the boot or other doors is. I've had a spoilt life clearly....

what year is your Octavia? all Octavia from 2001 can use a 3 button remote key regardless of it has a 2 button remote from the factory. Same goes for other VAG models such as 2002-06 Leon & 2002-04 Golf. He may have been using the wrong part number 3 button remote as there's an overlap in years with the 2 different part numbered 3 button remotes that are used on mk1 Octavia. These part numbers are 1j0959753da/ah for 2001-06 & 1k0959753g for 2004-09.

 

If yours is a 1999-01 Octavia then it has to be a 2 button remote that gets used with part number 1j0959753n. Sounds to me like the guy didn't really know what he was doing because anyone that's been doing VAG keys long enough knows all the different part numbers & what years & models they're compatible with.

 

Also £140 for 2 normal keys is robbery. The 2 blank keys & transponders won'[t have even cost him £20

Sounds like I do need a visit to yourself in the near future. In his slight defense (And It is only slight - He did have to pick the lock, but i'm guessing thats probably not that hard for someone with the skills)

 

Its a 53 Plate Octavia. I think he just went off a "Book" that he has as a reference point. Not using the skill/knowledge of a decent person.

there is an art to picking & decoding locks. I will also say it's usually the most difficult of the job. I haven't been doing that side of things that long but having been programming & cutting for a few years now.

 

Also yours being a 2003 will definitely work with a 3 button remote, just has to be the correct part number
