Debadge octavia

Featured Replies

Hi guys, ok just got my new front and rear badges. Very happy, look awesome. So I have now decided to debadge the rest! Get rid of the clutter on the boot lid. (Estate)

My question, has anyone done this, (obviously they have!) and any tips you would care to pass on.

I think I got the measure of fitting the new badges front and rear, hair dryer seems the order of the day!

There are a few threads on here (and you tube), in fact I should be doing this myself this weekend.

The best method seems to be a heat gun or hair dryer, then heat the letters up (making sure to spread the heat) until you can slightly move the letters. Take some dental floss (as it will be kinder on the paint) and start sawing behind the letters.

Once removed clean up the residual perhaps tar remover would be best, polish and job done!

Did someone say easy????

The letters are very easy to get off. I have a hot air blower from work. ..... BUT the badges? How long you gotta hear the feckers up? And me fishing line keeps snapping! May give up today, patience is lost :(

I used dental floss to get a mount off the inside of my windscreen but didn't heat it up as it was near the rear view mirror and that eventually came off after a few snapped pieces of dental floss so it might be worth checking with a main dealer that the badges arn't bolted or riveted on?

lol I never said it was easy ;) but worth doing IMO (although everyone is different)

I'm heading to my mates garage on Saturday to use his heat gun...very carefully, and I will spend as much time on it as I need to ensure that it's perfect.

I've also just re-read your post I quoted, the BADGE is not the same as the LETTERS, the badge is drilled (info from the dealer) so you would need to have the holes filled then painted if you're going down that route.

The only badge that is actually bolted on is the Skoda logo, the others are just stuck on, please see below taken from "post your Octavia Photos" thread:

Depending on your car colour and age of your car you may find that even after removal of the gunk that you'll still be able to see the letters. The reason being the exposed paint could have faded in the sun, whereas that under the badge is still the factory shade. Nothing can be done about this because the faded paint is below the clear coat, the only solution to faded paint is respray or put the badges back as several members have done before.

Not really an issue for me being in Scotland, I need to head south (or abroad) to see the sun.

The rear badge fits PERFECT! Thanks Chris. It also has the correct fitments on it. Straight swap. Although I did put glue around it aswell.

The front badge was perfect fit. The fitments were not the same, so just snapped them off. The sticky tape on the badges are rubbish aswell, so put a nice lump of glue under them both. The front did not fill me with confidence as it slightly concave? Or is it convex? But lets see if the glue keeps it there.

The 'tdi and octavia' lettering came off very very easy. Heat gun for 2 seconds, no bull, then I used fishing line. It left all the black gunk behind. I used white spirit to remove this.

The badges were just stuck on aswell, however reading back what Chris wrote, I went from inside the bonnet, it took 1 minute with heat gun and just popped right off! No fishing wire. Rear was a good 5 minutes of on off heat then I just said feck it and kept the heat on it and that just popped off aswell. Result! Clean up and bobs your uncle.

Thanks mate. Can I also say, if anyone is thinking of doing this, ask Chris for the correct numbers then go ahead and do it. I am honestly in no way car mechanically minded. (Motorbikes) This is at 38 my 1st tinker with a car. If I done it, after my no feg paddy attack, and found it easy, anyone can do it. :)

I was a biker as well until i was wiped out on the west link. And i only had me bike about a week.....

Nightmare. Very dangerous. Especially as over here they don't fit indicators to cars.... :)

Incorrect...Its stuck on

There are two holes in the tailgate for the location lugs on the back of the badge...NOT bolts

I'm picking up my new baby on Saturday... 2019 Octavia SE L in Moon White (4 months old, ex-demonstrator loaded with extras). I definitely like the idea of de-badging the hatch and this paint thing is all that concerns me. Given the youngness (is that even a word?) and whiteness of the car, will this paint colour change be a factor? I'm guessing not, just looking for reassurance. Ta in advance.
