1.8tsi....

Featured Replies

Found a 1.8t Superb SE estate. It's only a few miles away. But I wanted to asked a few questions about the petrol engine.

Mpg?? Can you map it?? Quicker than a diesel??

They only want £6400 for it!!!!

Mainly on 'A' roads:

  • 35mpg if I drive on the steady side of normal.
  • 38mpg if I never let the rpm go beyond 2000.
  • 30mpg if I drive it briskly and purposefully.
  • 23 mpg if I drive it like I stole it.

Around town: 24-26mpg

Great engine, though.  Mine's unmapped but there are plenty of kosher places who'll take it from 160bhp to anywhere between 180bhp and 220bhp.

HTH.

The 1.8TSi is a great engine.

Very easy to remap.

I cant comment on mpg in the Superb as mine was in an Octavia.

On a run taking it steady from Skye to Glasgow I managed 48.4mpg.

On the whole run from Skye to Sheffield (470 miles) I got 44,7 and did the run on 1 tank of fuel.

Hmm. Interesting. Anyone running a 1.8t on LPG?

Hi, I am running a 1.8 TSI Superb, you find all the mpg info by clicking the Fuelly/mpg info using the link below. I also think the mpg figures will vary with and become better and better with the later models. Don't see what year you are looking at.

Have a nice day!

I have an 2011MY Octavia 1.8TSI 4X4 Estate which is averaging 31.98 mpg in country rather than town use.

I was in a new Octavia petrol taxi in Stockholm last year running LPG and driver said it was no difference in power etc. Slightly less efficient he claimed, but local tax laws for taxis made it worthwhile investment. Only issue he had was that he hated the long queues for LPG as so many taxis are converted and there wasn't enough fuel stations with LPG.

Bear in mind that you are going to need to do 30,000+ miles to get your fitting investment back

Plus filling with LPG gives you the chance of an exothermic burn which is nice! :)

I had the 1.8T engine in a Seat Leon Cupra, albeit in 180 tune and it averaged 33mpg but would see 40 on a run easily.

It can be tuned to high BHP easily if you are so inclined. :)

The 1.8 TSI can get over 40 MPG (on average!), if you do not drive too fast. See my Spritmonitor account and my signature.

Hi

I have the 1.8tsi estate and my long term average (from Maxidot) is always around 40 mpg.  I have seen 50 mpg on some long runs down the A1, keeping to around 60 mph.  Town/city driving kills the economy, with mid 20's being typical.

The engine is an absolute peach and is virtually silent when sitting inside the car.  Also, mine uses very little oil between services.

I agree. :)
