Super Unleaded for my Fabia HTP?

Featured Replies

Fuel is interesting in which Depots and Refineries it comes from, some do not tell you.

How and were additives are added, and what those are.

Texaco are

They also Supply Unbranded Fuels,

Momentum comes from 'Greenergy', and they very openly give the spec of the fuel so you can easily see what is what.

Any idea how much Shell Nitro RON is ?

I was running very low yesterday and a bit far from Tesco to fill up with Momentum. I pulled in to the Shell garage and was shocked to see V-Power Unleaded selling at 1.369p, a staggering 8 pence more than Fuel Save Unleaded and 9 pence more than Tesco and local Esso forecourts regular unleaded. As the Tesco website states they never charge more than 5p more than their regular Unleaded. It's ashame Shell don't abide by a similar promise.

Filled up on this occasion but will be back to Tesco in future.

I paid £1.31.9 a litre Yesterday for Momentum 99

That is a good price George, well considering how expensive fuel is anyway.

Some may have seen it but there is an interesting video on YouTube from fifth gear about 8/9 years ago, search for fifth gear v-power. They test 3 cars, a standard Clio, GTi and an Impreza. Basically no power gains in non performance cars.

Sorry can't figure out how to link on phone.

Here you go, two Fifth Gear tests on YouTube:

And the thread (probably one of many) on this very forum that discussed this some 18 months ago LINK.

Personally I very much doubt that many people could notice much of a difference in practice but hey, it's only abut £2.50 so who cares? ;)

That is about power,

or sometimes Full Bore you might, or you might not get more bhp engine, ecu dependent,

But what about cold starting, or cold running, urban/town driving, commuting

or as some have said,  feels smoother, that might be all that matters,

Less emissions can imply more efficient running of an engine.

But if you use your car every day, and fuel up every week, all you want is constant quality fuel,

So not ever a bad lot of poorer quality,

because the Petrol used can effect how dirty your oil gets,

or when your In line fuel filter needs changed or even your spark plug.

So if you pay £2.50 extra x 24 fill ups in a year, £60, or equally to one tank of fuel.

(£2.25 x 24 = £54)

& you get an extra 10 miles per tank,  so 24 x 360 miles = 8640 miles

24 x 370 = 8880 , 240 miles more only. (some get 20 miles a tank more from 99 rather than 95 ron)

You might also need less consumables.

Say on a engine that the manufacturer prescribed 98 ron fuel for.

that might be one less set of spark plugs needed over a 3-4 year period.

Here Tescos main compraison is between their 95 ron and 99 ron,

which is a 5 pence a litre difference, so on 45 litres £2.25.

The results with the Fiat Panda & the Golf FSI might be worth a look at.

PS

I buy my Fuel with my 1-2-3 Santander Card and get 3 pence in the £1 back,

& use my Tesco Plus Card for my points.

Which can be tripled for buying RAC each year, or weekends away etc.

So the 5 pence a litre extra is covered just by that.
